Blockbuster Trade Idea!

Post#1 » by John Stockton » Mon Aug 9, 2010 4:28 pm

Played around with the trade machine, and found something nice. The Hawks will have Al Horford play his true position, salary relief, and more talent.

Atlanta Trades: Josh Smith to NO
Marvin Williams + Jeff Teague to Toronto
Receives: Omeka Okafor + Darren Collison + James Posey

NO trades: Darren Collison + Omeka Okafor + James Posey to Atlanta
Receives: Jose Calderon + Josh Smith

Toronto trades: Jose to NO
Receives: Marvin Williams + Jeff Teague

It works out. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=25xh2bl

Atlanta gets a back court of Collison + Johnson (Easily one of the best in the NBA) and a front-court of Horford + Okafor (Also one of the best). They save money with this deal and the trade Machine predicts they're wins increase by 2.

Hornets get another Josh Smith, a great player to go with Chris Paul, something he was promised while losing Okafor's contract.

Raptors acquire more talent, a young PG, and lose the contract of Jose.

Good trade for both the Hawks and Raptors I think. I doubt Hornets do it because they already have West at PF and they, as well as I, are very high on Darren Collison.

Personally think it's a horrible trade for us. We trade 2 starters - 1 of whom is arguably our best player - AND our best prospect for 2 salary dumps and a decent PG (his age as a prospect prolly means that he's got very little upside left). Personally, I wouldn't mind picking up Posey, but I'd want a MUCH more favorable deal. Under no condition would I want Okafor - too much $$ for too little production.

David west is a combo forward i'm sure him and Smith at the 3 and 4 would make a great combination or perhaps they would try Smith at the 5 who knows. And Collison and Paul can't co-exist. They have no choice but to trade him and getting a young player like Smith would be great for them i'm sure.

I think the Hawks want to focus on Horford and give him more spotlight so he develops. Darren Collison is no decent PG. In his rookie season he was able to have scoring performances of 35, games with over 15 assists (Including one with 20), and even triple doubles, (He's had numerous games with over 10 rebounds). That in a rookie season is no average player.

And like I said, even though the Hawks have to take Okafor and Posey, they're actually saving money. Josh Smith + Marvin Williams + Teague was more expensive. Perhaps Toronto could throw in Miami's first round pick which they own.

As a Hornets fan, I've been trying for a while to find a deal that pairs Smoove with CP in NOLA. I'd do this move provided we can get a guy like Gortat for West. We'd need a center.

Can you imagine the CP to Smoove alley-oops???

My only issue is that I'm not really sure why Toronto is involved at all.

Also, if you want Posey that's fine but and Teague are woth way more imo

Darren Collison >>>>>>> Teague

Darren Collison + Okafor > Josh Smith + Teague

Toronto is a team that is shopping Jose who has a similar contract to Marvin Williams. The Hawks not only get better, but save over 10 million in the long run.

Darren Collison + Okafor <<< Josh Smith, much less with Teague attached.

Okafor = massively overpaid
Collison = has some more potential, very old for a sophomore

Bad trade in general for Atlanta.

not sure we know whether Collison is better than Teague or not. Woodson never really let Teague play much. If he had the whole season like Collison did to run with it, he might do the same.

I wouldn't give up on Teague until seeing him play with the 1st team in Larry Drew's system. Collison put up great numbers in year 1 and looks real good in a system tailored to the PG. I can't feel sure about him in a different system enough to overpay for him. Josh Smith is too much to give up for Okafor. Okafor has a huge contract and is proving to be a tweener between PF/C. They are different players but I'd would argue that Smith has greater trade value around the league. Before making a major move like this I'd try to determine if Joe Johnson has trade value around midseason.

This is an easy "No" for me. Collison is the only positive asset being offered to us. Okafor's contract makes him a negative; the same (and age) downgrades Posey. And we're to give up Josh Smith (not to mention our starting SF and a promising Teague) for that!?

If y'all want to see CP-to-Smoove lobs, just trade CP to us for Horford and Jamal Crawford. THEN, we'll gladly take Okafor (and maybe Posey) off your hands.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

As far as trading Smoove to NOH - I could see it. I think if NOH was willing to give up West, Collison, and another asset (I like Brackins, but a future 1st would work), then it could work. I'd even be willing to look into adding a Bibby for Posey swap in there.

The BIG stumbling block: West would have to go to a 3rd team that be be willing to give up a young big to us. Maybe NJN would give up Favors for West... us getting the right to SNT Boone would be a nice bonus as well. Without this aspect (and the young big being a very good or better prospect), then we'd pass in a New York minute.

Collison/Okafor may be a decent basketball move for Josh Smith from the Hawks perspective but its a HUGE PR gamble. Unless that team takes us to elite status it will be an epic fail. That said, Collison looked ridiculous in some games and I wouldn't be shocked if the trade does make us a MUCH better team in the long-term (especially if Okafor healthy...just not a gamble I think ASG can make.

Also, I don't think people want to trade Teague, but I hardly see him as a block for the trade to actually happen...it's about deciding to trade Smith.

I agree with the above poster that trading JJ before season's end would make more sense than trading Smith...especially right now before you see how the east's elite shakes out.

FYI I think we have zero interest in David West. He's plays PF just like Smith and Horford and he's a RFA I believe after this season.

We'd happily give you Crawford/Horford/Teague for CP...

If Teague gets off to a rough start, a move will have to be made to save face this season.

Isn't it inevitable that either Smoove or Al has to be moved? NO could make a lot of sense, possibly too much sense.

Jason Thompson/Thabeet/DeAndre Jordan is who I would like to see us have an opportunity to acquire.

plus, collison just got traded for Ariza lmfao. shows how much value he has in the league. the fact that anyone would of considered josh smith and marvin for him and okafor a fair trade is laughable

???

Hawks take on 2 bloated contracts (which will hurt their ability to resign Horford) and give up arguably their best player for a a PG prospect to block Teague? Collison's a good player but Teague wasn't handed the reigns of the team last year like Collison was. I'm sure they want to see how he does in a bigger role.

Don't understand why there's debate on this. Bad trade for Atlanta.
