Eastern conference got Better except us!

Post#1 » by general » Sat Sep 25, 2010 3:41 pm

While other teams are stacking up to compete with miami and orlando. We might have taken a Back step with rewarding jj with a bigger contract then any other free agent and not having enough money to sign other players like AL or Crawford. AL was a All-star and Crawford was The easy 6th man of the year! Now our cap space is fried because we gave jj double his worth after pulling a dissapearing act for the 2nd straight year in the playoffs!

What do you want the Hawks to do? Let JJ walk, take a huuuuuge step back and not sign anyone? Or sign JJ and be a consistent 40 win team for a while.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Why only these two options ?
What I wanted them to do ? Try to sign Joe to only 90M/6yrs, which is maybe still overpaying him, and insist on the fact that if he takes this contract, we would be able to use the MLE to add a good player and be better than last season.

And if Joe was really what he looks like, a all money guy, then do a sign-&-trade.
I would have gamble on it, because all the players who signed for a big contract with other team have been signed-traded.
Why would Joe have been the only one to walk for nothing ?
If he wanted a that Max contract, he needed ATL to sign it, or he would have got less.

There were other options, and what hurts is that ATL never even thought they could do that.
We could have got players, or a big TPE, and ended up being better than with him at 124M.

How do you know they could do anything? We dont know anything about whats going on except that we overpaid for JJ.
How do you know any of those options were available? What mmakes you think there were attractive trade offers for him?

They could have definitely got a TPE in return at the very least.

The Hawks also didn't explore ANY options since they met with him and offered the full max immediately after free agency started.

This is what I think too.

The trade options, that's right that I don't know, but the TPE, every other teams got one, why would ATL be the only one to not get one ?

And more than anything, they made the offer on first day, so they never ask anything, and maybe they never thought of any other options.

The only one thing that could have lead them to think about that would be if other players have been sign-&-traded one the first hours, before their offer, but since they decide to make the offer one the first minute, it would have not changed anything.

That was just stupid, not to say NO to any offer, but to not even ask or hear anything.
If it was for James, Wade... it would be different, but not talking about anything for Joe is just stupid.

I see your point, Johnson played like crap in the post season. To be honest I wouldn't have given him the deal the Knicks gave Stat. I wished you guys picked up Al Harrington too. Crawford and Harrington would have been nice for your bench.
