Dec 15th Trades Involving Joe Johnson

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Nov 25, 2010 5:13 am

Option 1
Atlanta trades:
Joe Johnson - $16,324,500
Houston's 2011 second round pick (top-40 protected)

New York trades:
Eddy Curry - $11,276,863 (Expiring)
Danilo Gallinari - $3,304,560
Wilson Chandler - $2,130,481 (Expiring/QF)

Option 2
Atlanta trades:
Joe Johnson - $16,324,500
Jason Collins (Expiring filler)

Denver trades:
Kenyon Martin - $16,545,454 (Expiring)
Ty Lawson - $1,546,560

Do we feel strongly enough about Ty Lawson? If so, we can focus on moving Jeff Teague for a future first or serviceable player. Kenyon Martin would provide some solid depth at the 4 behind Josh Smith during the playoffs.

For Denver it possibly makes Carmelo Anthony happy enough to want to stay, but if not, Denver adds Joe Johnson as the backup plan to contend.

I like both of those trades. What about:

Joe Johnson
Mike Bibby

for

Jason Kidd
Caron Butler
Deshawn Stevenson

Joe/Mo/Zaza for Butler/Stevenson/Chandler & the french pg...although I'd do it w/o him to be honest.

It should also be noted that NY won't do anything until Melo signs a new contract.

I can imagine there is anyway that Denver trades Ty. I would love him but I dont see it.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

To be exact : "It should also be noted that NY won't do anything with Curry until Melo signs a new contract"
As long as they keep Curry as expiring and another 5M of room, making enough to sign Carmelo to a Max contract, they can make a trade for a good player, unless they thought they need to absolutely keep players under contract to do a sign-&-trade for Carmelo, and pay him maybe more (depending on CBA).

Regarding Beaubois, I think we could ask for him, it would be like going in the past and change our pick for Teague with the one for Beaubois, but even if the DAL gets Joe, I am not sure they will want to send Beaubois.
Added the fact that they would tell that they are doing us a favor to get Joe and his albatross contract...

I don't think Beaubois will be a good passing first PG, but if you have a real PG and a real SG, he can combine with both. It also means that the best option for DAL would be Kidd/Joe/Beaubois as backcourt
They would try to inclued Terry instead of Kidd.
Now if they really want Joe, it will need pressure to convince them to play a veteran backcourt of Kidd/Joe/Terry and trade Beaubois. it would be the last shot with Dirk, but DAL would have nothing to build on after that.

Mark Cuban & Donnie Nelson tend to have an emotional attachment towards some of their players, so I doubt they'll even consider trading Jason Kidd.

ATL-DALL: TRADE: J Johnson, M Bibby, M Williams, Z Pachulia
RECIEVE: C Butler, T Chandler, J Terry, D Stevenson

Dallas gets the shooting guard they covet, athletic 3-4, an adequate 4-5 in Zaza, and a vet PG..Atlanta can then play Josh Smith at the 3, Al Horford at the 4, they also get some cap relief as well as still being a very competitive EC playoff team this season!!!

I would really hate giving up Chandler
He's been amazing so far this year

The simplest deal and where Cubes would probably want to start from would be...
Butler + Stevenson(both expirers) for Johnson
and a pick would probably have to be involved

If you guys still what a center he may be willing to give up Haywood and his new $50 million contract
haha
Thats already looking like something of a mistake.

Take Bibby and Stevenson out of this.
If Terry takes the role of Joe, and Butler the role of Marvin, who will play PG ? Teague is not ready.
And not sure the goal would be to play Smith at 3, unless he shows now that he can be effective at this spot (until now, he was at 4 but not at 3), but more of creating a solid rotation on 5/4 with Horford/Smith/Chandler.

We also are not sure that Butler would stay for a decent contract next season, so could loose Marvin for nothing. If we don't include Crawdford in a trade, we already have him as expiring, so not necesseary need more expiring, unless the total can create enough room to get way under the salary cap and be able to sign a good player.

We can build on this trade, but I would not take it if it's not adjusted.

Stick a fork in this idea. Actually I'm not even sure he'll have time to show enough after surgery for anyone to bite at the trade deadline.

Maybe folks are overreacting just a little bit. If Joe comes back healthy, that's not so bad of a thing. He WAS one of the best SGs in the NBA, remember?

Of course, if his injury is chronic, then he got the gold mine and we ...

I probably like the trade with the Knicks and I do not believe any trade with Dallas including Chandler would be approved by them.
If so, the trade with NY is not getting us anything we need but money to spend in another player/s we would need.
Farther than Marc Gasol (RFA), I do not see anybody that could be interesting for us and, even with Marc (which I believe would be a great addition to our inside game), we would still need a 2 guard and a point guard, unless we get somebody for Teague, or he develops well, or Sy develops greatly (by the way, I read about him in a French magazine today and he could be money based on his old coach and the fact that he is 1.99/6.7 and 81kg. Great body for a guard at the levingston style).

I don't expect it to be chronic, but with his contract he'll be truly untradable until he can prove health in games which is why I think this topic is dead for this season. The window between rehab and trade deadline is too short to prove much.

how about

DAL: Joe, Marvin, and Bibby for Rodrigue Beaubois, Tyson Chandler, Caron and DeShawn

Chandler
Horford
Josh
Caron
Beaubois

6th: Crawford

the line up is good enough to finish 4th in the east and in the summer, the Hawks will be able to resign Jamal and make an offer to Carmelo (or Nash and Richardson)

All these Dallas trades you guys are coming up with are completely insane. They're one of the best teams in the NBA and they will NOT give up their starting center (Chandler) or point guard (Kidd) for JJ's albatross contract.

Best case trades for JJ:

1. Melo signs extension somewhere else. Curry and Randolph, but not getting Galinari in return.

2.) Dallas - Haywood and some combo of Terry/Stevenson/Butler. They'd get relieved of Haywood but would have to hope JJ is healthy and their chemistry doesn't suffer.

I would be ecstatic with either trade. Getting Randolph (or by some miracle Galinari) would be a heist. And while Haywood has a bad contract, JJ's is much worse and he can actually play some center for us and be very useful...getting Beaubois there would be a heist as well.

I also don't think any other owners would be willing to take on JJ's contract with impending CBA so Dallas and NY best options, IMO.

Yeah that's a crazy contract.

Maybe the Mavs could offer something like Caron + Stevenson + probably a 1st rounder for Johnson but beyond that I don't really think it'd be worth it.
Chandler has been the 2nd most important player on the team so far.

Does Joe stand a chance against most SFs?
He's basically the same size as Caron but that doesn't really mean much.
If the Mavs got him he'd probably spend a good bit of time there.

Kidd/Terry (or Roddy)/Johnson/Dirk/Chandler

If he's just going to get destroyed by SFs we'd probably end up just being a better team keeping Caron around or trading him for another SF

You can't really play Kidd and Johnson for big minutes together at the guards. Neither can guard PGs
