Trade Idea (Brendan Haywood)

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Wed Dec 29, 2010 5:33 am

I prefer Dallas to not trade Brendan Haywood at the moment, but some fans are getting restless, so I wanted to see what my fellow Hawk fans thought about this trade. Brendan appears to be upset about his role on the team, Tyson Chandler is the starter, and Brendan is seeing limited minutes off the bench. Brendan was also promised the starting job before he signed his contract extension.

To keep Brendan happy, Atlanta would need to start him, or provide him with a decent amount of minutes off the bench. Brendan is also apparently a fan favorite because he ranks 3rd in All-Star votes among centers.

It's not exactly appealing to Dallas, but does it interest you as a Hawk fan?

Hawks Acquire:
Brendan Haywood

Dallas Acquires:
Zaza Pachulia

Zaza Pachlia: $4,251,250, $4,750,000, $5,248,750

The only downside is the the long term growing salary.
Collins is playing well now and i am not sure what else Haywood would bring to the table. The point is really to find a team in need of a C while pachulia still have modest value. First coming to mind would be CLE hence the Bibby + Zaza package for Mo Williams.

At least, it's one of the C upgrade that seems a financial possibility. Haywood, on the next two years will make 3M more than Zaza, so it should allow to stay under the Tax threshold, but with less flexibility, and having already almost no flexibility...

Actually, I like this trade in two cases:
- if owners would accept to pay LT, and keep or sign-&-trade Crawford, or other trades to improve the team
- if owners don't want to pay any tax, we have to also trade Joe, for some talent but also less money

If we are not in one of these cases, I am not sure I would pull the trigger on this trade.

What about McGee or Blatche if the trade rumors have any merit to them?

Zaza is the most overpaid player we got, that includes JJ. Dude gets 4M a year to lead this team in:

1. Missed layups
2. 3 sec violations
3. Illegal screens
4. Flopping

I'd trade him away in a heartbeat. I'm not so sure about Haywood. He's got size but seems to believe he's much better than he really is. I would target Biedrins, Camby, Kaman, Collinson, even Lopez (PHO), before i tried to touch his contract at his age and production.
GO HAWKS.
