NJ sent Favors/Harris/2 picks. We could have topped this. Notice the best talent sent is a PF.
NJ began building with a PG and a Center. Then they upgraded their PG.
At least we're cornering the market on PFs and SGs....

As i said in another thread we didn't have pieces to make the trade because of our lack of a serviceable PG to include. Maybe we could have done it as a 3 way deal with a Brooks or Sessions combined with Josh, but we don't have the picks for both parts of the deal. Our assets aren't that coveted.

Hawks didnt have the assets to get him.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Smoove is wayyy better than Favors ... he might be good enough for Favors/Harris. Marvelous/Teague would be enough make up for the rest.
The picks trump us, however. Buuuut, we had Crawford to take on bad salary from UTA. We were in the ballpark.

Marvin is unwanted at his salary. Teague is unwanted at his current level of competence. Smith is better than Favors, but Favors might be able to play C ultimately. I'm not saying we couldn't have made an offer. Maybe we did. I'm just saying that the Nets offer would be perceived as better. I think the Jazz took a moderate downgrade at PG under the theory that they would lose Williams ultimately and got 3 1st rounders for it. Unless we could get a 3rd team involved, the drop off at PG would have been a lot greater and we didn't have a young C prospect to bundle. Our key piece would be a talented PF who doesn't always have his head on straight.

Yeah but NJ's key piece is a talented PF who couldn't get onto the court for a pitiful team. He's far from a sure thing. I could only quibble with everything else you say (I think you overstated the NJ offerings and understated ours) but Josh Smith is a lot more valuable than Favors.
And to be fair, if you're going to present Favors' best-case scenario, you need to speak better of Marvelous and Teague.

Favors best thing going for him is that he's an unknown. I don't think he's great. It's just as a top 3 pick that has played little he's not confirmed anything bad or good at this time.
Marvin's best case is highly paid glue guy. He's sadly not an unknown, he's a known underperformer without the drive to be great. He's had about as many big games in 5+ years as you would expect out a high draft pick in his first season or 2.
Teague might have sellable upside, but he's looked so pathetic in games (lacking confidence and making questionable decisions). He didn't play PG in college. His only showcase time has been 1 summer league where he looked okay (we did field a team his rookie year, cheap $#%# organization). Lots of people look good in summer league. I wish he had greater trade value, but he's not shown any breakout games to make other GMs dream.
Maybe both players have been mismanaged by the team and the coaching staffs over the years, but they aren't valuable right now. Utah can make a case that with Harris running the team they can still fight for a playoff spot. They couldn't has such expectations if Teague was the PG they got back.

........... YES, I HAVE BEEN POSTING THE HAWKS SHOULD TRADE FOR DERON FOR WEEKS....... but with all the draft picks that NJ sent, their was no way the Hawks could make an offer that was better than NJ........ but good thing is that Deron will not resign with the Nets, so the Hawks can still sign him, either trade away Marvin and Zaza, or do a sign and trade with the Nets.
Hawks could not top this, because the 2 picks are going to be lotto picks. Jazz don't need Horford or Josh, because of Millsap and Jefferson. and Joe is not worth 2 cheap lotto picks.

Jazz fan checking in on how y'all felt about the hinrich trade and losing a first round.
As it relates to dwill, I don't think you had much of a chance. The nets proposed this trade to us tuesday, we didn't initiate discussions. The Nets and Jazz GMs both worked together in philly, I think we just took the first offer we thought was good enough.
Also, I think the vast majority of the value we got lies in the picks, which were better than the draft picks you can send back. We also probably wouldn't have done it without al horford being included, if only because of age / salary factors that make harris / favors more valuable, in my opinion.

i think the best offer the Hawks could put out would be Joe and Picks (probably low picks cause the Hawks are a playoff team)
i don't think that would bet the Nets offer of Favors and 2 Picks (probably lotto picks, cause the Nets will not make the playoffs for the next few years)
i think the Nets offer is better, but what do you think?
