Steve Nash This Off-Season

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:33 pm

I think Phoenix is prepared to move Steve Nash this off-season. They acquired Aaron Brooks from Houston and I expect him to be Steve's replacement. How much would you give up to acquire Steve Nash?

Due to Steve's age this is most likely the most for me. A trade centered around Kirk Hinrich and two future first round picks.

The picks would have to be 2013 and 2015 which lessen their value. Truthfully, I don't make an offer. Nash for a year and half would have been a good boost to ticket sales and attention. Nash for 1 year is likely to be a misfire in my eyes. There is a good chance he splits town or calls it a career at the end of the year which leaves you back at square one and a couple picks lighter. Too much uncertainty and age to give up so much.

Investing our future in Steve Nash does concern me because of the small window of time he'd most likely play for us. I think the ownership would benefit the most and the likelihood of us getting to the finals are still slim.

The other thing I'm factoring in is the possibility of a shortened season. If I'm trading for Nash I want the most bang for the buck at the ticket booth and in TV coverage. The trade would likely be too late to influence the national networks broadcast decisions. Furthermore, if any of the season is lost like what happened during the last lockout then his box office impact and bonding time is minimized.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get Nash, but the price I was willing to pay went down greatly from the trade deadline to the off-season.
