Andrew Bynum for Josh Smith

Post#1 » by pughead » Tue Feb 15, 2011 7:09 pm

I'm curious what you guys think about a straight-up Bynum for Smith deal. Why it would or wouldn't work (primarily for the Hawks) for either team.

The deal makes a lot of sense but each player's potential would keep the teams from agreeing on a trade. Smoove can be a superstar - another Dominique Wilkins but with superb shot-blocking and rebounding. Bynum might be the next great NBA Center.

ATL wouldn't want to give up on Smoove's potential for a gimpy-kneed bag of potential who has, up to now, only shown flashes of what he has. LAL wouldn't want to give up on Bynum's equally great potential for a 6'9" PF/SF who yells at the refs.

By the way, from what I've read, Jim Buss loves Bynum more than life itself and would never trade him - not even for a king's ransom.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Wouldn't work in season because Josh Smith would be attempting to fit into the triangle offense on the fly and I'm not sure he could that quickly (more like sure he couldn't). Beyond that I believe the Hawks would do it because if (and I understand it is a big IF) Bynum stays healthy then a Horford/Bynum front line could make them a true title contender (favorite?). Josh is extremely talented but a C of that length is just so valuable and rare. Lakers wouldn't give up Bynum for just Smith unless they were fairly certain his health was shot even then other teams would be in the bidding.

If Josh went to the Lakers, I think he could learn the triangle on the fly. The Lakers have a coach on the floor in Kobie, he would make sure Josh is where he is suppose to be at all times.

Ron Artest has openly said he has no clue at times what he's doing. I think Josh Smith would have a difficult time learning it and fitting in the Lakers system.

On the other hand, I would love for us to explore a trade that acquires us Bynum, even if it means Josh Smith is moved.

If we are talking about trading a SF for a center to LA, I think Marvin for Kaman might be an easier, less risky, and more realistic way to go. (have to add Zaza, to match salaries and give them a backup C replacement)

Kaman might not have the "potential" in him, but he is currently just as good as Bynum. (Kaman actually might be the better scorer)

The Clippers are looking for a starting level SF, and Kaman seems to be the odd man out with the emergence of DeAndre Jordan.

This would also let Horford play the 4.

Kaman - Horford - J-Smoove - Johnson - Hinrich

That's a starting five with huge size (7', 6'10, 6'9, 6'8, 6'4), but still great mobility.

Josh Smith gives Atlanta an increased chance at obtaining Dwight Howard. LA attempting to manipulate thing since the All-Star game creating rumors that could be considered by many as damn near tampering is a crime in itself. Trading LA Josh would all but guarantee LA obtaining Howard by eliminating their only TRUE competition for getting Dwight Howard the Atlanta Hawks!

Why would the Hawks want a center with injury concerns over the opportunity to bring the best center in the NBA back home to play with his brother from another mother Josh Smith again???

Tell Jerry Buss we have the "Big Stack" in Josh Smith an hometown bargaining chips and his DONK bet out of position (creating rumors) is just that a DONK bet that is getting exposed right here.

Atlanta isn't Memphis. We don't exist to make you better. We exist to bring a hardware home to the ATL!

Dwight Howard along side Josh Smith will be part of the future NBA Champion Atlanta Hawks!!!
VOTE Rod Strickland into the H.O.F.!!!

more likely Dwight signs to NJN or ORL

Did you really just spell Kobe's name as Kobie? How?

At any rate, I don't think the Lakers would do it because Pau isn't as useful at Center and they need their two towers defense.
