Corey Brewer received a buyout today from the New York Knicks. Thoughts on pursing him?

I'm unsure if I would. We have 1 roster spot and I think a pro-rated minimum wouldn't put us over the luxury tax threshold, but I'm not sure he fills an area of real need right now. Is he still a lock down defender? I ask because I've not seen much of him since college. If he is, it would mitigate his lack of shooting to make him more attractive. I might also suggest Mo Peterson instead. He's done nothing this year after being traded in the offseason, but his career 3 point shooting is strong.

I'm just confused about the rash of buyouts. I mean was there no room on the Knicks roster for him for the rest of the year?

Grab him while you can! You guys traded away your wing defender in Mo Evans, Brewer could fill that spot also he played with Horford...

I will grab Brewer since Azubuike appears to be done anyawy. after all, he is only 24, min cost/risk and could benefit from playing with old buddy Al again...

If we sign Bibby, it should be OK because the prorated is lower due to the 30 days waiting period.
If we sign other players, I am not sure.

EDIT should possible, see next post

I guess that makes it more likely for us to call someone up from the D-League then, because most of the vets will have already signed by the time we can afford to sign them.

The 165 days was an example.
Now that I checked, it's 127 days (today included), and 43 left.

854,389 x 43 / 170 = 216,110

70,307,000 - 70,089,489 = 217,511

So if I am not wrong, it eventually should be possible to sign a player starting tomorrow, and not pay LT :)
I really hope they will take advantage of that.

Shamsports has the Hawks at $70,140,069, making March 12th the first day to sign a player.

Apparently, Sund is not interested in signing anyone...

But Shamsports has Wilkins at 226,484 for Dec. 3rd to Jan. 5th, then 482,478 for the two 10-days and the remaining part of the season.

I have 33 days from Dec. 3rd to Jan. 5th, then 98 for both 10-days and the remaining part
It makes 165,882 and 492,530, so a total of 658,382, exactly the same amount "Storytellerscontracts" says.

Unless Storytellerscontracts and I made a mistake, and Shamsport is right,
we can sign someone starting tomorrow.

We have a surplus at Center,so cut Etan who hasnt seen the floor and sign this guy..A 6'9 Wing , who can shoot the 3 and defend, would be a amazing addition for the Hawks. It would also re-unite him and Al and bring him closer to home..

And since we don't know if we will be able to keep Crawford for next season, better try a new wing player now, and if it works, it will certainly a lower cost and a possibility to keep him, especially if it feels good here, playing with Al.

While it is fun to daydream over the vets we could add we should probably be scouting the d-league for help and even that might be a pipe dream.

although Brewer's defense if pretty good and gives some great dunks once in a while, watching him on offense is extremely frustrating, and his ball handling is horrible.

if he gets a decent NBA jumpshot, he might turn into another Gerald Wallace, but that is kind of a big if and a long time away.

i'm okay with Wilkins for now

Honestly im not okay with Damien for the simple fact, Damien does nothing on the offensive end.Brewer at least starting coming into a jump shooter and dunks, but im ready for the possible first round exit anyway just so we can prep for next season unless coaches better.

Brewer is expected to sign with Dallas. Money talks and it's keeping him from Boston.
