@Geaux_Hawks Several things could happen here this offseason.
Hawks foresee the opportunity to grab a PG and Dwight the very next season due to Josh Smith's friendships and ties and:
A) trade Joe for the requisite expirings
B) The league thinks he's an albatross and say ixnay
C) say screw it and Hawks play Marvin just enough to trade him and or/Pachulia for players to win now and Dwight never comes
D) never explore the options and trade key players under contract in hopes to sell the team, they then said they attempted to trade Joe but teams said no. Then a realGM wiretap headline reads: Cuban/Walsh never heard from Hawks.

Just my opinion but my God if the Hawks pulled this off in a "small market" team. I would be ecstatic, It would be poetic justice if Hawks fans got a winner throughout this long rebuilding phase that started off with so much turmoil drafting and not tanking Horford's rookie year and then the bad signings. It would be the ultimate comeback.

Also:
Hawks are 8 - 3 without joe johnson this year

"Are we better without joe? I believe we are. I believe marvin is a better player when he is not under joe shadow. Now im know fool im not trying to compare joe to marvin but the proof is in our record this year."
"i believe the hawks play better team ball without joe. i dont know about better. when joe shows his 07-08 version of himself once in a blue moon, were better with him. when he has nights like the one against kobe (i think 9 points) not so much. i'd much rather have a team like denver, deep with alot of good players, instead of any stars. "

Best option.

Here we go with more fantasy scenarios. Be realistic if your going to offer trades, or project offseasons.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

If the magic don't improve around D Howard, do you guy think a Marvin & Al Horford (maybe a first) cound get us in the converation for D Howard? Joe, Josh & Howard would be our big three

Would you guys do a Josh Smith, Kirk Hinrich trade for Nash and Warrick?

No..... the move doesn't help the Hawks make a max offer for Dwight. it would hve to be Josh and a bad contract for Nash.

but, you are also missing the point. Dwight was Josh's best man in his wedding. so it would be counter productive to trade away Josh to get Dwight to choose the Hawks.

I don't think Dwight will choose the Hawks either way. Just being honest.

New Jersey, LA, New York (could offer Melo or Amare to NY), Chicago all have better chances IMO.

And what about Smith, Hinrich & Pachulia for Lopez, Nash and Warrick. You guys finally get a legit 22 year old 7'0, 250lb center and allows you to move Horford to his natural position, PF.

Chicago doesn't have a chance with their contracts. the Lakers are even in a worst position than the Bulls in terms of contracts. Melo and Amare have veto powers, so why would they want to go to a bad team in Orlando?

Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, and New Jersey have the best shot.

Boston is a big market, but KG, Ray, and Pierce will either be no longer around or too old and on the decline. in addition Rondo and Dwight would be a horrible pair, both can't shoot free throws and have no jump shot. a Rondo/Dwight pick and roll would be horribly bad.

Dallas is a big market and has an owner that likes to spend money, but by then Dirk would be old and only have a few years left of being a contender.

New Jersey is a "sudo" big market, an owner willing to spend, and a superstar in Deron, but we saw every super star free agent, including Melo, turn down NJ, because the Nets have a reputation with NBA players. in additon, it is a "sudo" big market, because it is not like Kidd or KMart were really raking in the big dollar ad deals when they were playing for the Nets

Chicago could offer Noah and Dwight can possibly take a paycut like Miami's stars did. Same with the Lakers as Bynum could be used as trade bait.

And we all know how Van Gundy has a fetish for defensive minded centers.

ah heck, Horford is alot better than Noah, Hawks would have no problem in offering Horford for Dwight.

as for Bynum, he is a free agent in 2013, so what is the point for the Magic and the Lakers

{Billups/Paul/Deron} $14 mil
Williams $7 mil
Smith $11 mil
Horford $12 mil
Howard $14 mil

Howard wants to play with Smith and also a All Star PG, preferably young on a contender.

It's a domino effect, all we have to do is trade Joe. We are a .500 team with or w/o him.
But many teams need a quality SG and we need to clear cap and retain talent.
If we miss out on Howard we are still the same small ball .500 team with the money to sign a C. And also Smith, Williams, and Horf will be entering their primes. As opposed to Joe who is in his prime and would be better off in DAL, NYK, CHI. And we still get 5 starters capable of putting up 20+ any night.
