Well the Howard portion(Thank goodness)

CP3 can still be had if you was optimistic of Howard coming.

of course he hates losing to the Hawks, his family is in the stands, and his best friend, Josh Smith is on the team.

i don't know about you, but i hate losing to my friends, but losing to strangers in the park in a pick up game, isn't so bad, than loosing to your homeboys

Everybody wants to beat their hometown team. Look what Marvin did in Seattle a couple of years ago. Look what Lebron did when he went back to Cleveland. MJ in NYC, the list goes on and on. That statement by D. Howard means nothing. I still don't believe he would come here though.

Zach Randolph is renewing his stay in Atlanta for much more money than expected: 71 mill $ for 4 years!
That will make Mark Gasol available. They already have Gay, Conley, Allen signed with important contracts.
As you could see yesterday, he is a very smart player who still can play inside, gets a lot fouls and makes his FTs.
He would be a nice addition.
A different thing is we have the money and the desire to go after him. Then the intelligence to get him the ball where he can make some damage.

I don't think so. It appears to me that MEM has settled on a lineup and will pay Gasol, as well. How can they let him go when they have a playoff team - a YOUNG playoff team - set in place?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

He would be a nice addition, but we have no cap room to make an offer and Memphis would pay to keep him anyway. We also have nothing they'd want in a trade.

He is an unrestricted free agent, so he can go whereever he wants to.
A different thing is that he is an intelligent person that probably prefers to go to a place where he can enjoy playing basketball and where he can win.
I would not be surprised if he went to the Lakers because they give up on Bynum and his injuries. Or to any other team where he is used smartly. I do not know is he is willing to stay en Memphis, as he knows Gay will be back next year and that will mean much less touches, as it was happening at the beginning of the season.
That also would not make Atlanta an ideal destination.

No, we quite literally can't pay him any more than a minimum salary. No player, no matter how much he likes winning, is going to take $1 mil annually instead of $10 million annually, especially when the latter team is pretty much just as good.

I expect Memphis to offer a Gasol a fair contract this off-season. They have some contract coming off the books that will help them retain him, but I also expect them to move OJ Mayo for future considerations, so we'll see occurs. Gasol will most likely receive a similar extension like the one Kendrick Perkins signed.
