Still, I think the team makes a lot more sense than it did before. Now they have a traditional C, a traditional PF (in Bass) a traditional SG (Richardson), a traditional PG and a microwave-type in Arenas.

Turkoglu allows them to play as they did with Rashard Lewis, when they want to.

But, next year, if they don't re-sign Richardson and Arenas doesn't improve....

if Dwight demands a trade in 2013...... Marvin, Crawford, and draft picks for Dwight.

I don't think Orlando got worse but Phoenix and Washington couldn't have asked for better deals.

The more sensible thing to do(IMO)would have been keep Gorat....trade VC+Pietrus for Richardson/Hedo....and then flip Lewis for something along the lines of Gordon/Villanueva.

Joe the last 3 years has posted between 17 and 19 PER.

You can also apply the eye test in which Arenas has played better than Joe this year.

In any case, you realize we're talking about a guy who posts similar production coming off the bench for Orlando, which can afford to take on a one-dimensional player?

the stats you have for Gilbert the last 3 years are weak to use in an argument. but i'll pretend that they are legit facts......... Joe's 19PER = Gilbert's 19PER........ Joe still plays better defense.

I used stats the past 3 years because HoopsGuru used them since Arenas is posting better stats than Joe this year. Arenas visibly looks better than Joe offensively, Joe plays mediocre defense anyways, and Orlando doesn't care about defense since they have Dwight in the middle, something that we don't have.

Arenas PER is 16 since his 1st knee injury in 2007 while Joe's in 18...he's not posting better stats.

To be honest the way Lewis and Carter had been playing means the trade is almost sure to be an upgrade. The question goes back to how they fit together and whether SVG can adjust and make best use of the talent. The more I look at it the more I like it, which I didn't at first.

If healthy I think that Ryan Anderson more than replaces Lewis in the rotation, so they got Gilbert for free. I think Gilbert spends more time at PG which mind wind up as an Arenas/Nelson platoon which is better than a Nelson/Duhon platoon. Jason Richardson is 4 years younger than Vince Carter and should be more consistent. Hedo Turkoglo isn't much on the defensive end, but he has offensive flexibility over Pietrus. I don't see Earl Clark as adding much and the loss of Gortat could haunt them, but he was only getting 16 mpg. As long as Dwight doesn't get into foul trouble they'll still probably have an advantage at C each night.

I've already posted the PERs, and I'm curious where exactly you're getting your 16 figure... it would necessitate include this 3 game sample in Orlando where he's admittedly played terrible.

You and Harry are completely missing the point though: Orlando just picked up a guy who produces at a similar level as Joe Johnson offensively, and who is slightly worse defensively, but lets not pretend Joe is anything but mediocre on that end. They picked this guy up to come off the bench and score, like how we use Jamal Crawford.

i think the Magic got alot worst. i love the trades for the Hawks. Get Dwight in foul trouble and Horford and Josh will be able to feast on Bass and Orton. Before Carter, Joe was able to dominate Turkoglu and when Richardson was a Bobcat, Joe was able to big numbers against Charlotte.

still think this? And before Carter, Lee played SG, not Turk.

To me its too early to tell. They lost good players and got good ones back. It all depends on so many factors now. Im happy to see a change regardless, because we did not match up well with their old roster. IMO Gilbert has more talent than Joe, he could be much more beneficial to any given team than Joe, even after the injuries. However, I think his attitude hindered him alot. I think we have to wait and see how he gels with the team to really make an assessment. The thing I like is that both J-Rich and Gilbert are not known for making smart plays. If Gilbert dont humble himself and adjust to his new role, then he could end up hurting them.

Gortat is easily replaceable. Loved the guy, but it's not like he got the time to do a whole lot.

Turk never guarded Joe, Courtney Lee did. They just beat San Antonio and Boston back to back, snapping 2 double digit win streaks.

I think I like it.

Too early to judge by I still have no idea why they did the Lewis/Arenas portion of the trade. Chauncey Billups being the exception(maybe because he wasn't that athletic to begin with)...ball dominant/shoot 1st point guards usually fall off a cliff once they lose a step. I don't know why Orlando wasn't more cautious after seeing Francis with the Knicks or Iverson the last 2 years of his career.
