Guys, I been think.. now we have our pg ( Teague & Cap Kirk) pretty secure for next year. And if Josh is told to drop ~10 to man the sf position ( at least 75%) we need a ligit starting center! Nene, Kaman,Oden, etc are really just dream ( i.e. Joe's contract!). What qualitys should we be looking for in a big man? what type of guy would make use better?
Good rebounding ?
Mean ( inforcer type) ?

I think everyone is sleeping on Hamad Haddadi. 7'2 265 is nice size for a guy who has a decent feel for the game as well. Doesn't have to get 30 minutes as the Hawks would do better platooning the center position. Aaron gray or Kosta Koufos can help him platoon.

I would prefer someone that can score in the paint. so we can run a inside-outside game in the playoffs. I wouldn't mind going after Nazr Mohammed.

Hawks are not one player away from all of a sudden becoming a championship team. if you think that adding a player like Kaman, Nene, Chandler, or Gasol is going to magically propel the Hawks to a level that can beat teams like the Celtics, Heat, Lakers, or Dallas, then think again. don't think that getting a discount center will become the miracle piece that the Hawks have been missing for all these years. the Hawks are a team filled with "almost" all stars, with no legit star player.
Don't kid yourself about the Hawks being like the Detroit Pistons, a team with five strong starters and no top 5 players, because the Pistons had big time ballers on their championship run with the Defensive Player of the decade in Ben Wallace, and the best PG in the league, in Billups, who was putting up PER number that were better than Nash and playing defense.
Hawks will always be a pretender and remain as a pretender until they get a top 10 player. so the Hawks need to go big, or not even waste their time

We really don't need this "top 10" player you talk of and honestly I think Joe is a top 20 himself. Also, like you say, Kaman or Chandler won't make us into a contenders, and Nene & Gasol will only make us somewhat contenders.
But, if we gain the right bench players with one of Nene or Gasol, preferably 2 perimeter shooters on the wing, a vet Defensive PG, and some young, athletic, mauling Bigs; Hawks can become a decent contender.
We got a defensive minded PG with a perimeter shot, but some names I keep hinting on are guys like Nick Young, Marco Belinelli, O.J Mayo(2 of those 3); Hamed Haddadi, Jordan Hill, Anthony Randolph, Aaron Gray(1 of the PF's & 1 of the C's). Mainly underachievers, who many not cost a lot to obtain in trades. Then get some vet mins to fill out the roster like Wilkins, Rolle, Sye,Reggie Williams, Chris Johnson, Collins.
Lineup like:
Teague/Hinrich/Mayo
Joe/Mayo/Williams/Wilkins
Young/Williams/Wilkins
Josh/Hill/Rolle
Gasol/Haddadi/Johnson
2 Top 20 star players, Fringe All-Star PF, Perimeter shooting/scoring, and athletic defensive bigs. I love being optimistic

I think Nene would make us a contender. He gives us everything Collins and Zaza give us without changing how we play. He would be pure gravy, offensively and defensively. He doesn't have to be fed the ball, yet scores. He defends. He rebounds. When you consider how close the CHI series has been, The addition of Nene would have broken their backs.
Chandler would really help us, as well, since we could use a defensive and rebounding presence down low. Horford would be freed up to be "all he can be." Smith would benefit, also, since he does better when he's free to roam. But Chandler wouldn't help us much offensively.
Gasol would help us but mostly in the opposite way, compared to Chandler.
