i hope this is just a rumor. just like Yao Ming, Bynum will only have a few years left in the NBA and Artest has a horrible contract and if officially on the decline

i don't mind signing Bynum when he becomes a free agent, but i would not want to trade for him because i can't think of one post player who had had the same injury that he has and then come back and looked decent for the rest of their career.

Who knows, if Bynum stays healthy this trade would be a huge steal.

IF is the key word.

If Bynum is healthy he is a great player. Being healthy only once in your career is a big no no.

I have been an advocate of fighting to obtain the services of Dwight Howard. Josh Smith is such a key for that to happen. However, This would be steal for the Lakers since they have had the press machine out Dwight to LA since the All-Star break... It's how this business works.

I say squeeze the trigger on this deal. It would be a definite upgrade in Atlanta. and would improve the floor chemistry providing us with a more balanced starting 5.

Gamble on Bynum's knees? .... or gamble on Smith's head?

If we choose the wrong man, we'll hate ourselves either way. But ask this, "Who would I rather have if BOTH work out?" If Bynum stays healthy and Smith plays to his potential, I think I'd miss Bynum more, personally.

When in doubt, go with the Center - they're just so hard to get.

probably do it, but would make me sick to have the hawks spend so much on marvin and artest at the 3 and get so little out of that position

With Tegaue, JJ, Bynum, and Horford...there really isn't a huge need for them to be stud scorers. They would just need to play solid defense and hit a shot every know and then as a 5th option, possibly 6th.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3to95gw

Teams without centers dont win without Bynum. As a rule of thumb a team never trades a premier center for a non-center.
For all of the talk about it being a point guard's league, Lakers had a 7'1 player as the 2nd physical/biggest guy on their frontline. Dallas has a 7'0 power forward and has always wanted centers so that they can cover for Dirk. at the Derrik Fisher has back to back championships and everyone knows its starts with defense and rebounding.

It all starts from the bottom up. There are no more Garnetts (he only plays 30mpg now) and who knows how long Dirk can keep this up, but Chandler is only 28 so he helps.
Miami is overloaded at 2,3,4 but lack depth. Even so going forward u dont want to go small against Miami. You control the boards, you control the ball, you control the ball you control the game.

everyone knows you need elite (ie) talent and ability to defend bigs and rebound to win. The trap is when you use your talent from one position to cover up for a lack of physicality, defense and rebounding.
Now you're using one person to carry the responsibility/deficiencies of 2 people. IE Josh Smith at the 5. IE Kevin Garnett having to defend 5s post-Perkins trade.

::::::::::
Yahoo! Sports reports that we do know one thing about him: he remains deadset on holding onto Lakers center Andrew Bynum.

Now, Jim Buss has two guys in the franchise: Brown and Andrew Bynum. In fact, Buss has made something clear within the Lakers, sources say: Bynum is untouchable in trade talks.

For now, this could include a sign-and-deal for the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard. The Lakers are Howard’s preference, but they don’t have salary cap space to sign him. They’ll need a deal that includes Bynum to the Magic, but there are those seriously doubting Jim Buss’ desire to make such a trade. After all, Bynum was Jim Buss’ discovery, his pet project and believes Bynum will ultimately resonate as the son’s personal Lakers legacy.

Buss’ loyalty will be Bynum and Brown. These are his guys now.

There was an identical refrain during rumored trade talks with the Denver Nuggets prior to the deadline. There was word of a Bynum-for-Carmelo Anthony trade for quite some time before Anthony was eventually shipped to the New York Knicks. That deal reportedly never got off the ground because of Jim Buss' loyalty to Bynum.

Is this unmitigated loyalty misplaced? Yes.

Personal ties should never drive roster decisions. Sure, they can be a factor -- even a major factor -- but in weighing options but they never should be a deal-breaker.

In Bynum, the Lakers have arguably the second best center in the league. They also have a big man, locked into a long-term contract, who is ready, willing and able to shoulder more of the offensive burden. He says the right things about playing defense and protects the rim well. He's a mismatch problem for the vast, vast majority of NBA teams.

Of course, the negatives are clear too: He's a hothead, as evidenced by his evisceration of J.J. Barea in the playoffs. He's a bit moody and still a touch immature. And, most importantly, he has a long history of injury issues.
""""""""""
On if the Mavs can beat the Lakers:

"Hell yes. That's it. Hell yes. We've got the size now. We've got the depth. We've got a lot more depth than the Lakers. It's not even close there."

On expectations on the Mavs after nine straight 50-win seasons:
"I'm excited about it. We're going to continue our streak. We're going to have a great team. I think we have the depth, experience and are younger and more athletic to kind of fill some holes we had last year. We are going to be better... This is a really, really special opportunity for us. We're going to have the deepest team in the NBA by far. I think our second unit, J.J. (Barea), Jet (Rodigue Beaubois) and probably Shawn Marion or Caron Butler switching back and forth with the second unit with rookie Dominique Jones playing the three, Tyson Chandler playing the four and Brendan (Haywood) or Ian (Mahini) playing the five. Our second unit could beat a lot of first units. We're going to have so much depth that it's really going to give us an advantage this year. All our guys are coming in with one focus only and that's to win a championship. That's the goal.

We can sell Smith to LAL by reminding them that he and DH are buds.

when's the last time a good center was traded for a good slasher?
that completely changes the dynamic of the team from defense to offense. That's like Marion for Shaq, only in extreme cases do someone take a step back defensively.

Not everybody wants to play small :D
