Would WE do this?

Post#1 » by parson » Tue Jul 19, 2011 5:01 pm

Just playing around.

I've been over at the CHI board, discussing trading for Asik. They - rightly - pointed out that we're poor trading partners (unless we could talk their management into SNTing for Crawford), so we'd have to find a 3-way.

What about this: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3sy8wrm ?

It's Josh Smith to MEM, which sends Mayo and Xavier Henry to CHI, which sends Asik, Taj Gibson and C.J. Watson to us. MEM sends us 2 first-rounders, as well.

I know we have to be careful trading one of our only 2 big men, but Asik intrigues me. Gibson is a terrific bench player and Watson is solid. Adding the picks to Gibson and Watson would greatly improve our bench.

Eh, regardless of anyone's personal feelings on Asik or any prospect, I just can't see Sund don't see us trading either of our bigs for a package of prospects. Any decision made to break down the team without getting similar production would have to start with JJ and shedding the rest of his contract. We just can't risk our most highly paid player just tuning out (...further?). He's not at an age where he could accept another rebuilding project and trading a big without getting any established NBA starter-level production would be basically waving a white flag to this season. If and when we deal JJ (or otherwise determine that we don't care if he does tune out), can we rearrange the remaining parts we'd have and/or to acquire prospects for the established stars.

Dunno who'd want him or how an NBA GM would value him, but the types of deals that I'd see Sund do with Smoove would be something along the lines of Smoove for Camby + a prospect or 2 or maybe in a deal to MIL that would net Bogut...

Few problems.
I don't see it from Memphis' side considering they have ZBo and Marc is up for free agency. It's just too much salary to absorb for them and Arthur would be a cheaper backup 4 when resigned.

Chicago has expressed a need for a more offensively gifted 2 but I highly doubt they'd give up both Asik and Taj for it. Most of their board prefer Taj over Boozer even so I don't think they'd be too excited for eliminating their entire frontcourt depth in order to add more wings to their already overcrowded stable.

Looks good for us though, I prefer quality depth over just a good starting 5.

I could just S&T Crawford to the Bulls and they give us Asik, Korver, & Charlottes 2012 pick.

I tried that weeks ago on the CHI board. CHI fans think they can do better.

Funny thing is, Asik will be a FA soon and they don't plan to pay him starter's money. You'd think they'd want to get a really good SG like Jamal for Asik (and filler) while they can.

Jamal's season last year was his best ever. He stank it up again this year and Bulls fans got to see him play bad up close in the playoffs.

They rather "roll the dice" on other players ie Jason Richardson JR Smith that may be hidden in their defensive schemes.
Both are younger than Crawford, Smith considerably so. Smith is who they want as a long term solution...
