If the options are losing CP3 for nothing or trading for Smith and Teague, I think the choice is simple. Smith and Teague is better than anything New York could offer and would likely trump most other teams offers (exception being possibly OKC).

What impact does Stern have on this?

NOH would be good in the East but middling at best in the West. Maybe they suck so much and get a lotto pick.

Teague
Bellinelli
Smith
...
Okafor

ATL would do this without an extended CP3 with no loyalty and rumors he still is mad at ASG.

Except for the fact that contracts dont match up, Paul could still be pissed at ATL (he was ready to get drafted and informed he would be and he got embarassed by....Marvin Williams)

When did Billy Knight ever inform Paul he was going to draft him? BK said himself that the pick came down to Deron Williams vs Marvin.

The reason Paul isn't coming to ATL(and why I think LAC will strike out in free agency) has way more to do with the fact that our ownership is abysmal. If you're a star player and the worst case scenario happens...you want a front office that's going to keep trying to do whatever possible to improve ala Dallas.

Given the latest word on Paul requesting a trade to NY it doesn't seem like the Hawks need to make an offer unless it is to rent Paul for 1 year and hope he changes his mind. Having said that I'd probably be willing to send them something as a rental.

Kirk Hinrich (expiring)
Marvin Williams
2013 1st rounder

Chris Paul

Yes I'd sacrifice Marvin and a future 1st to get a year of Paul and his bird rights (under new CBA my understanding is it takes 6 months after trade to get the bird rights which means prior to December 30th and you'd have a window to extend him at a rate higher than other teams). Come summer time I'd offer him the max I could and if he still wanted to walk for less then I bid him farewell reluctantly. We've used a 1st to rent a lot less and while I hope for Marvin to thrive after surgery I'm not holding my breath on that.

I'm not sure but that offer might be better than anyone else would be offering. In theory New York could package Chauncey, Landry Fields and a future 1st which maybe seen as better than our offer so maybe we'd need to offer more. They have the luxury of knowing that he'd resign there.

Marvin, Kirk, Teague and picks for Chris Paul and Jarret Jack

i'm okay with a one year rental (but i beleive CP will end up loving ATL and playing with Horford) with Jack as the Hawks future PG.

i think this beats any offer that the Knicks can make, because i think Teague is alot better than Larry Fields.
