Nets offer Lopez for Dwight

Post#1 » by basic21 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:57 am

Nets offered Brook Lopez and draft picks for Dwight.

could Horford and draft picks (or Teague or Kirk's contract) beat the Nets' offer?

They also supposedly are willing to absorb Hedo Turkoglu's contract. In my opinion that's a nice offer. Lopez regressed a bit last year and that has cooled some people on him, but I'm not willing to give up on him yet. Yes we could possibly make a similar offer, although I'm unsure about the ability to absorb the Turkoglu deal. Since Al is BYC he only counts as 6M outgoing. Al, Kirk, and Magnum Rolle would match Dwight, but if we absorb Hedo it becomes Al, Kirk, Marvin, and Zaza to match.

So lets assume Dwight/Hedo for Al/Kirk/Marvin/Zaza/2 1sts to make the math work. The problem I see is would Dwight Howard resign here? Would a lineup of Teague, Joe, Hedo, and Josh keep him happy?

That leaves this roster:
Jeff Teague 1.6M
Joe Johnson 18M
Hedo Turkoglu 11M
Josh Smith 12.5M
Dwight Howard 18M
Pape Sy .8M
Keith Benson .5M
Magnum Rolle .8M

That's 63.2M for 8 players. Strangely at this point I think we might consider resigning Jamal Crawford because we'll need a 3rd guard. Might as well use the MLE to add 1 more piece on the front line or another shooter as well before finishing out the lineup with minimum salaries. In for a penny, in for a pound. The reason I say that is if you acquire a 2nd max player like Dwight then you might as well go for broke and count on him selling out the arena. If you don't spend to complete the team then he's more likely to move on.

i'm okay with Hedo.

would the Hawks be able to amnesty Hedo right away, or have to wait after a year.

Hawks could amnesty Marvin or Hedo and any money they lose on the Hedo contract, they would easily make up for it, with the added revenue of Dwight being in Atlanta.

I think Dwight would resign, especially since it's his hometown and because his best friend who he grew up with would be here in that hometown. I think the biggest problem is the Magic: would they trade Dwight within the division, especially to the hawks who at this time are their biggest rivals

I was just presenting the math on a proposal, if I'm Orlando I don't trade him at all. As for amnesty it came out today that you can't use it on a traded player, so if you absorb Hedo you get him for 3 years.

I like how everyone skipped the OP's actual question.
