NBA@2: Orlando The Next NBA Super Team?

The free agent class of 2013, you see, has some very interesting names in it . . .names of players with whom Howard would love to play. First and foremost, Howard’s long-time friend Josh Smith will be at the end of his contract with the Atlanta Hawks, and close behind him could be Golden State Warrior and Howard buddy Monta Ellis, who has an Early Termination Option on his deal.

How about a little game of “What If?”

What if Howard, Smith and Ellis put their heads together and came up with salary numbers that would work for them under the cap, as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh did in Miami? What if Ryan Anderson decided to stick around to continue benefiting from the attention Howard draws in the post? A lineup of Howard, Smith, Ellis, Anderson and Jason Richardson would be pretty formidable on both ends of the floor. Howard and Smith would send back any attempt to attack the rim, and Ellis Richardson and Anderson would enjoy plenty of open threes. Orlando could fill out the roster with exception money and minimum contracts, perhaps adding another Howard friend in Stephen Jackson.

Monta Ellis
Jason Richardson/PG
Josh Smith
Ryan Anderson
Dwight Howard

P.S. I say Hawks pursue KG's expiring. But what would Hawks fans say if Josh Smith left to help create another superteam?
Would you guys be confident in rebuilding a contender around Horford then? I personally would not.

Howard is not gonna stick around in Orlando until 2013, if he wanted to do that then he woulda picked up that player option already. If anything he's probably gonna bolt and look to be part of a superteam in Dallas with Dirk and Deron Williams.

How Smith makes ANY team a super team is way beyond me, specially with a guy like M. Ellis who can't play defense and is a terrible team player.

No point guard.
A two with no handles.
A three that thinks he has more handle than he really has.
A good four, but not too athletic.
A great five, with no jump shot, no FTs.

Who would be setting the tempo in this team?

No comparison to Miami's big three and no comparison, IMO, with the roster we could get here should we get Howard for Horford and JJ, keeping Teague, Marvin, Smith, Zaza, Green and getting Turkoglu and just a good young player out of the three picks we have.

The article ignores the almost 30M in salaries Orlando would still have that season. If they can trade some of those pieces out to get Ellis then yes, they could add Josh Smith in free agency provided they have cap space and Dwight Howard. Quite the long shot.

I've seen several articles saying they are talking but I'm not really understanding what Orlando has to offer that would at all appeal to Golden State.
