#2 on his list of players most likely to be traded is:
Josh Smith - His analysis is that he doesn't believe what he hears on the matter and that if Sund could get a legit PG and a serviceable F back he'd do it. He went as far as to say if Boston would do a Rondo-Smith swap that it would be done. He also says Steve Nash, which is absolute bs (because he's expiring and wouldn't have the incentive to stay).
What? I admit that Teague hasn't been consistent, but I'm not sure about trading off essentially the front line to upgrade a position that has been serviceable. Furthermore, if Joe Johnson hasn't exactly messed well with the attempts to empower the PG position does it make sense to shift more dollars into that spot while keep Joe.
Ford's never had strong info about Atlanta and has been trying to trade Josh since his rookie year, so there is no reason to buy his spiel this time. This is especially unlikely because Sund and Drew are on expiring contracts and trading Josh right now would open a hole on the front line that they are unlikely to fill with a place holder (I like Ivan Johnson, but he's not able to play 40 mpg at a high level). Even if an elite PG would make sense with Al back, if they blow up this season are they going to be around to see if the move works?
What do you think? Is Chad Ford right and Josh is available for the price? or is this just hot air from Hawaii?

Re: Chad Ford at it again
He's just piggy backing off a well known fact, that Josh is available for the right price. The thing is he's been floated out there for years and the team has offered him up for high value assets and stars and been laughed at and then the team has laughed at any offer for him that isn't star quality so pretty much the ASG think he's worth a star and the league thinks he's not so here he is and here he'll remain.
Chadwick is trying to make the distinction in the news or better yet, is just trying to piggy back with his same ole "Atlanta needs a PG" drivel. Give him credit though, he's consistent.

Re: Chad Ford at it again
I think Teagues lack of consistancy comes completely from being the point guard on a team full of babys that get sour puss face if they feel like they didn't get the ball when they should have.
Lets be honest here. If there was one player that we should spread the court for and let go one on one, who would it be? I think we all know that there hasn't been ONE guard this year that looks like they could keep Teague out the lane if he wants to get there. Yet we still have Iso's for guys when they aren't even in a mismatch (Joe vs Iggy to close the quarter is NOT advantage Hawks).
There is no way anyone is watching this team thinking "They really need a point guard".
As for trades, I would move Josh for Al Jefferson in a heartbeat.

If Utah would bite we would be a much better team. And yes, I was just getting greedy with Milsap (I am sure they would give away Howard at this point).

Josh is not valuable enough to bring back a better PG than Teague. Deron Williams got traded and so did Paul and those players that they were traded for are not as productive as Josh but his rep is just not good. Nash is not worth Josh, doubt if OKC wants to move Westbrook and Chitown is not moving Rose and there is no-one in this draft that tantalizing at the PG position. So, the PG thing makes no sense.
The best we could probably do is Brook Lopez and some contracts we don't really want. Lopez leaves a lot to be desired on the court and his injury history with lower body parts are piling up. Let's just be honest there is nothing out there for Josh unless the rumor of a lotto pick and fillers to make salary work are true and that is a crapshoot trade.

I don't disagree. This is why I feel you wait until offseason to make a deal. You don't have to be as creative with salary matching and you have time to fill around the trade with other moves.

The offseason also kills some value though because then he's more of an expiring than he is a building block. Teams won't empty out their coffers for a year rental unless they know they'd be appealing long term. This would also be bad for the NJ trade because Lopez is a free agent and would have to be sign and traded meaning with his extra salary which would kill NJs cap for Dwight so they'd then have no interest.
