Josh smith for most improve player

Post#1 » by truehawksfan121 » Sat Apr 7, 2012 5:00 pm

Josh Smith has stepped up his game this season. He is averaging 19 and 10 with 4 assist, 2blocks and over a steal per game. He should have made the allstar team. He has shown he can take on a bigger role on a team. The only thing that holding him back is his shooting percent. There is no one in the nba that has improve more than josh smith. And i feel he deserve this award

Josh was still good last season so I don't think he'll win most improved this year, I think it'll be Lou Williams who wins it

Josh could be deserving based on the improvement of his per 36 minutes stats across the board, but I think Nikola Pekovic gets the nod for Minnesota. He's had similar improvement in play but he also is getting double the minutes which makes the impact more obvious to the voters. When I started looking into the math I was focused on whether Teague was a good MIP candidate. It turns out Jeff is playing about the same as last year (statistically), but obviously getting consistent minutes. Shows that he should have been getting better minutes last year.

Let's be real here, Josh doesn't deserve MIP. You have guys like Jeremy Lin, Nikola Pekovic, Kyle Lowry, Ryan Anderson who are far more deserving of it.

the NBA and sports writers don't like giving awards to players on losing teams.

If Lin didnt get hurt he could have won easy but he didnt play enough games this year. I can see bynum getting the award cause he stepped his game up this year. After reading these stats this is why i like josh for MIP

Josh smith 25 Double-doubles is good for fifth in the league this season.
He is 5th in Defensive Rebounding rate, with 25% —only Kevin Love and Blake Griffin are better this season at power forward DeMarcusCousins and Kevin Garnett are playing a lot of center this season.
Josh is #1 in Assist percentage with 20.6%. Among all forwards, only Paul Pierce and Hedo Turkoglu have higher rates, both small forwards.
If you are looking for a player who has more than 70 steals and 70 blocked shots, there are only two: Smith and Dwight Howard. In fact, there are only three players who have a 20 PER, 20% Defensive Rebound Rate, 3% Block Rate and 2% Steal Rate: Smith, Howard, and Cousins
Josh looks like he is gone make the all nba team and all defensive team. Since the nba screwed him out if the allstar team, this award can make up for it

Problem is

1) are those stats much different from his previous seasons?

2) do the people who actually vote on this care about advanced statistics or looking at a raw boxscore difference or riding with the hype of a relative newcomer?

He's a lock for another All Defense and should make either of the 3rd or maybe 2nd All NBA teams but I doubt MIP.

no way JSmooth deserves MIP, he has not improved 1 iota from last year, he was as great last year as he was this year and the last 5 years, he is just appreciated more.

Most increased appreciation award.
