The problem is the ACTUAL play was going to net you a Josh Smith jumper from the right wing and not where he was.

This is just really wrong....

Its very common on a last possession for the center and PF to stand on the perimeter to pull the post defenders away from the basket and allow spacing and a better chance for iso and offensive rebounding (and possibly set picks). if you look at the video below, you will see how the post players are standing on the perimeter and then run towards the basket when the shot goes up to get the offensive rebound. (Josh took the shot when their was 6 seconds left on the shot clock)

if you played high school or college ball, you would know that this is a common play that we run.

^^ the more i look at it, i couldn't have set up a better alinement for a last possession. Smith was totally in the right place.

Joe, Josh and Horford were on strong side to take away weak side shot blocking from KG and Bass, with Horford at the high post pass, just like Brad Miller use to do.

Teague and Marvin were on weak side to provide 3pt shooting.

just a dumb play by Horford to passing to Josh with 6 seconds left, and dumb play by Joe for not moving.

Horford should have held onto the ball, Joe should have ran behind Josh for a pick. Horford should have passed the ball to Joe when Joe ran behind Josh.

Josh and Joe could have then played the pick and roll with the ball in Joe's hand to what ever the play dictated. that might have been the play Coach LD drew up. (look at the video below, at 0.50 seconds, shotblocker McDyess is pulled out of the paint, Oakley is on the perimeter setting a pick for Vince as Vince runs behind Oakley to get the ball)

if you know basketball and have played the game in an organized system, and were coached, then you could see and would know that Horford and Joe are to blame for not executing that play.

but if Horford was intent to really pass it to Josh with 6 seconds left, then Joe should have cut back door or posted up Pierce, but i would have draw up, if Josh had the ball with 6 seconds left, Marvin should have flashed to the basket and used his 6'9 frame to seal off Ray or Bradly to get an easy dunk because Horford was already pulling KG out of the paint.
