JJ would make a great 2nd option/pippen clone for Carmelo.
(Carmelo/Joe/Tyson = Allan Houston/Sprewell/Camby)?

He's a very good on ball defender, and has experience under M Woodson.

Amare gives us (offensively) what we need most, a consistent post scorer.

Where he would fit with Josh Smith and Horford remains to be seen.
But if your team can live with JJ's contract for the next 4 years...he's all yours.

Personally, I would rather trade Melo over Amare because his trade value is higher, he is not a winner, he doen't make teammates better, etc. I still think Amare can be very effective on the right team with the right PG. You guys would probably have to trade Smith as I see Horford & Amare as decent compliments (BTW - Amare does not have a post game).

People confuse post scoring with a guy having his back to the basket and pulling out Kevin McHale's repertoire. Amar'e is a faceup guy but he is a consistent post scorer in that he consistently score points from the post....

I already mentioned that STAT is the Rashard Lewis to our Gilbert Arenas in a previous thread. Bad contract for an injury prone guy that fell off tremendously but his deal ends a year earlier and he'd at least give the team flair and leadership more that Mumbles Johnson ever has.

On-the-court-wise he'd make sense with Josh leaving and Horf is the type of bigman that he can succeed with because he can space the floor and not clog the paint for his pick and roll action. The problem with that is that Teague has not given any indication as of yet whether he knows what a pick and roll is.

If Josh wants out of Atlanta this offseason then I am all for Joe for Amare. I really don't want to watch the Hawks of Joe without Josh. I follow that deal up with Josh to Houston or elsewhere to land some prospects. I'm pushing for Josh Smith for Kevin Martin (or other contract filler) and Houston's 2 midround picks. Martin is a good scorer, but I have no intention of keeping him beyond 1 year unless his next contract is for half as much money.

Put Amare at C and focus on more pick and roll offense. At C he'd face less athletic competition and we'd still have Al to help protect the lane. Zaza and Ivan provide defensive punch off the bench as well. The 3 first round picks would allow us to land a C, a SF, and a guard to develop. Amare's contract is one year shorter than Joe.

It's probably a lateral move for the team in the short term, much weaker on defense, but much more consistent on offense. I think the offense will flow even more with the reduction in ball stopping. Long term prospects improve because of the 3 first rounders on rookie deals. If one of those 3 breakout (to go with Horford and Teague) then these 2 trades might have Atlanta positioned to be competitive for the rest of the decade.

IMO, this is more of a lateral move than Kirk Hinrich for 2 1st rd picks. I will pass on it even though it does spare you a year of Joe. Has to be better out there for Joe.
