Joe must Go!

Post#1 » by geeman » Fri Jun 1, 2012 12:48 pm

I know we beat this one dead horse, but I really think were close. I just think as long as Joe is making sooo much money, that we’re strapped long term, b) he’s the leader of this team, c) his game is good just sooo one dimensional , etc. . We are stuck in purgatory! I believe THE FIRST AND MOST INPORTANT TASK THIS SUMMER IS TO UNLOADED JOE JOHNSON (CONTRACT)!!!! I think this is best for Joe too; he’s an above average player but not a lead dog.

Please, where is he going. I agree though.

Only trades we can make that include Joe really only help us with payroll and hurt us on the court like this one.

Lakers get: Josh and Joe

Rockets get: Gasol

Hawks get: Kevin Martin, Dalembert, Josh McRoberts, and Steve Blake

We clear payroll but get no picks or anything to build on in the future and I don't really like that.

I actually like that trade.

Teague
Martin
Marvin...I guess
Horford
Dalembert

Blake
?
?
?
Mcroberts or Ivan(honestly...prefer Ivan)
Zaza

Still leaves some holes on the bench but thats a decent trade. I guess losing Joe and Josh for Martin and Dalembert(essentially) doesn't sound GREAT, but if they have to go....

Are you guys that bored or are yall smoking something that good?

Why should we give the Lakers Josh and Joe to team with Kobe and Bynum???
That's horrible for us and the rest of the NBA.

The trade is not that bad if we keep Josh and moved Joe's contract.

That Lakers lineup would make me cream my pants.

Kobe, Joe, Josh, and Bynum in the starting 5? That'd be totally bull, I don't think there's ever been a legitimate Big 4 in league history.

Yup. Not even the mighty Lakers can afford that lineup.

I don't know that that particular trade will work, but the idea of addition by subtraction makes sense to me. I think getting a few players back that may not contribute on the same level as JJ is the only way we can get rid of his contract. I team with a horse or two in the stable already (and money to spend) might take him for a chance to get much better. I don't mind getting some trash back if it means flexibility. Just for kicks, let's say we do make the LAL/HOU deal mentioned above and take back those 4 guys. Martin and Daly would probably fit, but we could trade any of those guys again to further ease the cap burden. Or, amnestying one of them would be far easier and more worthwhile than using that option on JJ or Josh. I'd rather find a way to trade JJ and pay Smoove.

Doesn't work that way. Amnesty of Joe doesn't free up enough with cap holds to offer the max to someone. I did the math a few weeks back and determined that you could get to a point of 10-11M to offer a free agent (well for all your free agent moves, but you could spend it on 1 if you wanted).
