I was wondering if anyone would be interested in Rudy Gay in exchange for Josh Smith and Marvin Williams?
This is what the trade looks like:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=bqc4vpy
Basically This is the break down:
ATL In: Rudy Gay, Vince Carter, 2 Mil (Cater Buyout)
ATL Out: Josh Smith and Marvin Williams
PHX In: Josh Smith, Dominic Jones
PHX Out: Marcin Gortat
MEP In: Marvin Williams, Odom, Beaubouis, 2013 Mavs 1st Round Pick + 3 Mil (for Odom Buyout)
MEP Out: Rudy Gay
DAL In: Marcin Gortat
DAL Out: Odom, Beaubouis, Dominic Jones, Vince Carter
Why this works?
ATL: Gets young Allstar at SF position in exchange for Josh Smith (unhappy and most likely to leave in 2013) and unloads Marvin Williams contract, gets Vince Carter for 2 year 2 Mill Contract (can still play in limited role) and 2 Mil to buy him out if dont want him
PHX: Gets a young allstar in Josh Smith potentially to build around in the future and to entice Nash to stay now, (will also need to amnesty Childress, which prbly was in the plans already) and has tons of cap space to work with this summer
MEP: Exchanges Gay for Williams (better defensive and average offensively SF) at half the price, Beaubois added to replace Mayo as 6th man at 1/3 of the price, and can buyout Odom no problem (3 Mil is the cost) to avoid Luxury tax and can actually tender Speighs or sign someone in 2012 FA, and an addition 1st round pick which is much more valuable with the new CBA
DAL: Adds a very solid center who they covet in Gortat, and gets rid of as many contracts not named Dirk on the team to sign DWill (will also prbly amnesty Haywood)

Not really, no. Gay is a good player, but if we're moving Smoove, then I'd think we'd be concentrating on young, cost controlled talent - not someone with a big contract.

Re: Any Interest in Rudy Gay?
Considering we get out of Marvin's contract and get a more traditional SF I would think long and hard about that trade if we could get a pick back with it. We probably would not pay Josh as much as we will pay Rudy so I would want Memphis 1st rd pick also.

The big 3 of Joe,Rudy, and Al does more for me than the one of Joe, Josh, and Al because Rudy is a SF unlike Josh whom the question still is can he play the 3 fulltime

Re: Any Interest in Rudy Gay?
I like the idea of getting Rudy Gay for Marvin and Smoove because it suites our team makeup much better. We can go with Teague, JJ, Gay, Al, & Zaza and be extremely competitive. The problem is 3 contracts (Joe, Rudy, & Al) are going to handicap our cap for the next few years. I think the real question is how much of a difference will it make to have Rudy in the lineup as opposed to Josh. Perhaps with a decent draft pick this year and can get a serviceable big, we might make out really well on this deal (especially next season with the extra cap space). I don't know about the rest of the deal, but it might work out for us.
