I think the majority vote of fans tends to get it right more than the Hawks' GMs. it is safe to say that the majority vote would have resulted in Chris Paul and Deng and still keep the same selection of Horford.
So that their is no hindsight, who would have you selected in the 2012 draft?
Others can include:
Marquis Teague
Orlando Johnson
Khris Middleton
Will Barton

Re: Who would have you selected in the 2012 draft
Perry Jones.
He has lottery pick talent and the Hawks are obviously shopping Smith. Even if the Hawks didn't want Jones for the long haul, they could have drafted him and used him as a trade chip. There are reports that the Lakers wanted to get him so we probably could have gotten a future 1st rounder or maybe convinced the Lakers to take Marv off our hands.
I'm not totally disappointed with the Jenkins pick. He could be a new Jason Terry. But given the available talent that was on the board, he was a bad selection.

....Maybe more of a new Ben Gordon? (or Jodie Meeks or George Hill), but then with the history of the Hawks' GM, he will probably be another Royal Ivey
Terry is actually one of the quickest players in the NBA, i don't really think Jenkins quickness is going to be something he can dominate with.
maybe Jenkins will be the next Ben Gordon, but then again i also said that Childress will be the next Tayshaun Prince, when Chil was drafted.

Re: Who would have you selected in the 2012 draft
You all can say I'm crazy, but I like the Jenkins pick. It would have been great to get an inside presence or a top athlete, but Jenkins was the top scorer in the SEC for 2 straight years and has a lot more to offer than just a shooter IMO. Perry Jones has bust written all over him. First, he's never really had the desire and work ethics to take advantage of his abilities. Also, with this injury to his knee, he may not have a chance to be great if he's hurt. I do this Jenkins was a safe pick, but right now I like safe a lot! But I think we may be surprised how good this guy could become. I saw one highlight that actually compared his shooting form and release to Ray Allen. Not saying he's going to have that career, but he's got better than average athleticism and the smarts to go with it.

Re: Who would have you selected in the 2012 draft
You're not crazy, Jag. Personally I was hoping Terrence Jones would have dropped but Houston felt the need to have 7 PF/SFs. Beyond that the irrational part of my brain has been in love with PJIII since last year and the Larry Hughes/Jamal Crawford loving part of me would have liked Wroten. I'm not of the mind that a big must be picked at all costs no matter their skill level but Moultrie would have been a get as well. Like others I felt the Jenkins pick was a reach because Doron Lamb would be available at our pick in the 2nd round......I guess him going one pick before us tempered that and made me say out loud "I guess they knew all along!' in mock sarcasm. I also held out hope that Quincy Miller would hold out to our 2nd pick after we selected Jenkins.

i thought about this the other night, i forgot it, but now remember it again, but
Jenkins -> Stephen Curry/Ben Gordon?
Ferry is still dumb for taking Jenkins, it is just as bad as drafting Salim Stoudamire. i could be wrong and Jenkins could be a version between Curry and Gordon, but after what happen with Chilldress, and Shelden, Jenkins is a classic Hawks' pick.

this couldn't be more wrong. Jenkins is by far the riskiest pick of the whole group because it is not even sure he has the talent to stay in the NBA. majority of GMs consider him to be a second round talent, undersize, unathletic, and a one skilled guy like Travis Hansen. every year we have a "great shooter" in the draft, and how many of them last 3 or 4 years. just look at Kawhi Leonard and James Anderson, two totally different players, and two totally different results.
Jeff Taylor and Perry Jones are probably the two of the safer picks. both guys have NBA bodies, neither of them are skinny like Jonathan Bender and both Taylor and Perry will easily have 10yrs careers. whether those 10yrs will be Rashard Lewis or Andray Blatche or Derrick McKey, we will see.

Re: Who would have you selected in the 2012 draft
Every year the draft has "a great athlete" or "NBA body" but how many of them last 3-4 years? How many of the ones that do pan out have developed fully in that 3-4 years? You can pick and choose whatever examples you want and I can find just as many if not more to refute your claim so you can't possibly hope to play that game as though it means anything.
Jones is a guy that can bust for a myriad of reasons and doesn't have a single NBA skillset yet outside of he just looks like a player. Can he be a great player later in his career, sure but he's not guaranteed much right now that's a why a team with the 2nd best SF in the league didn't mind taking a flyer on him.
Taylor is an athlete but he's older and had only his senior season where he shot the ball well. That and uhm.....was he better than his teammate Jenkins at Vandy? And he has worse measurables than Jenkins (3 inches taller but wingspan is 2 inches shorter.....and he's supposed to guard Fs in the league?) That ain't safe at all. I was against that with all my heart when I heard he was a target at 23.

Alot!.... heck as bad as Yi, Brandon Wright, Andray Blatche, Johan Petro, and Gerald Green are, they are still putting on an NBA jersey to this day.

Re: Who would have you selected in the 2012 draft
Damon Jones and Eddie House played 10 seasons each too and both have championship rings to boot, your point? Also be noted that both Yi and Green were out the league before late season signings, Blatche actually wears a business suit most nights and Johan Petro draws a check for the same reason Jason Collins does.....he's 7 feet. Stunning examples.

I can live with Jenkins....the guy can flat out shoot and his top side could surprise a lot of us. I just remember him killing the Bulldawgs almost every time. Good Pick.

Re: Who would have you selected in the 2012 draft
If Ferry drafted Jenkins because he knew he was going to trade Joe later on..... then i take back all the bad stuff i said about Ferry.
i can see Ferry's logic now, because even though Jenkins doesn't have the ceiling that Wroten or Doron have, Jenkins is more NBA ready at this moment than Wroten and Doron.
so if the Joe trade does happen, then for me, the pick becomes horrible to very good, i would give it an "A-"

Any of the 4 guys on my board before Jenkins would have been better.
Moultrie, Jones, Wroten, or Taylor
