^ im not a fan of Al Jefferson, but if Dwight and Bynum are no longer available, then having a Jefferson/Horford combo could work.

Horford's defense can make up for Jefferson's weaknesses, but i would still rather get a center who is above average on defense.

Josh and Horford inside defense is more than adequate to help Jefferson in any weakness he may have. what the hawks need is Jefferson ability to score in the post.

I know that the OP clearly stated the summer of 2013, I was being sarcastic because someone said that most of the guys listed would be restricted FA when that is not true. and with Al Jefferson being my next free agent after the super star are gone. yes he is exactly what we need, a center that can score in the low post and rebounds well. I am not sure what he would get in the open market but I am sure he would want to go to a winning team over a lottery team. if not then move to the next free agent. but I wouldn't expect anyone of these to lead the hawks to a championship. only Dwight and/or CP3 would be able to do that. If we fail on the Dwight or CP3 sweepstakes I would what to attempt to build a complete team that is it...... and hope with the talent of lets say Jefferson and Teke added to this team that Horford and Smoove could lead the Hawks to a championship.....

Are you doing that thing that you do that when you make an incorrect statement, you try to save face by skating on a very literal technicality?

Who would you like the Hawks to go after and possibly overpay?

3 out of 7 players listed in the OP are restricted. In the poll, 2 out of 4 of the players listed there are restricted.

Beyond that, you questioned me on Bynum and have gone on to suggest Jefferson instead........when Bynum is superior to him in everything that Jefferson provides plus he can defend. To even quote myself in direct response to you:

macecase wrote:Been to the playoffs but twice in whole career, has had the same knee surgeries as Bynum, older, less offensively efficient and can't defend a paper sack. He'd ask for a salary starting at 12-13 million whereas Bynum is capped out at 16 mil first year salary........Bynum is a complete bargain in this instance.

If you have a personal liking for Jefferson over Bynum then just say so, don't try to make this about anything otherwise. Nobody is eligible for a Joe Johnson contract anymore and the most we'd be able to offer is 4 years so that aint gonna fly either.

I am not trying to skate on anything. I mean what I say and say what I mean..... Bynum , although extremely talented, makes me nervous. he has been in the league what? seven years but as only had one season where he hasn't missed a substantial about of time. I believe there maybe one more season(not sure what year) that he played the majority of the regular season but he missed all of the playoffs. that, to me, just screams red flag........ and stay away. he is just one wrong turn from being injured. now had he had two consecutive season where he was not out then I would see Bynum in a different light. Al Jefferson, who is only two years older than Bynum by the way, has had his share of injured seasons. but out of the 8 years he has been in the league he has had only 3 injury riddle season. to add he has played the last three season almost injured free; consecutively. that is the difference.

it doesn't matter how much talent you have, if you are injured and on the bench it does not do the team any good.

I think Jefferson would be a good player on a great team but I don't think he makes enough of a difference, especially on defense, to help raise a team to greatness. I guess it'd all depend on his contract: if we could spend a reasonable amount on him, we could flesh out the remainder of the team (at $12-14 million/year, we could keep Horford and Smith, sign a max FA like Chris Paul AND still go hunting for a decent SG). Problem is, he won't sign for a reasonable amount ... and he doesn't merit a max contract. He's an above-average offensive player who plays average defense.

Think about it: he posts numbers like 19.2pt/game, 9.6reb/game and 1.7blocks/game, yet UTA is hot to replace him with an unproven Favors.

One more thing: his best position is PF...
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

if he doesn't sign for a reasonable amount move on and go the the next free agent on the list. he isn't someone I would over pay for well I would over pay a little. I would give him something like what Horford is making. and that is not overpaying for a starting center that posts numbers like 19.2pt/game, 9.6reb/game and 1.7blocks/game.

Then go hard for CP3, Reke, Ellis in that order.

Jefferson may play PF better. but he is a better Center than Horford. and with him and Hoford they can share time at the 5, with Jefferson playing more 5 than Horford.

and Utah wants to move on with the youth movement. if the Hawks had Favors and Kanter I would want to go the younger route too. but we have Zaza, Mike Scott, and Ivan Johnson... see the difference?
