2012/13 Lineup

Post#1 » by epfou1 » Tue Jul 3, 2012 2:14 am

After the trades, what does the lineup look like?

My guess is:

SF: A. Morrow / I. Johnson
PF: J. Smith / J. Williams / M. Scott
C: A. Horford / Z. Pachulia / J Petro
PG: J.Teague / J. Farmar
SG: D. Harris / J. Jenkins / D. Stevenson

On first glance, we are very small especially at the backcourt and small forward position.
We also have too many point guards. Harris has shown before he can be an effective shooting guard so that is where I have listed him.

I'm hoping, Ferry isn't done yet. I'm very happy with his moves thus far and if we can package Horford + Teague for Dwight Howard, I think we have a lineup that will challenge the Heat.

Farmar is out, and you're signing Ebanks so,

Teague-Harris-Pargo
Morrow-Stevenson-Jenkins
Smith-Ebanks
Horford-Johnson-Scott
Pachulia-Petro-Williams

Horford
Josh
Stevenson
Morrow
Teague

or

Zaza
Horford
Josh
Morrow
Teague

i still think Josh surprises everybody and carries the team to #4 because Bulls, Sixers, and Celtics will have problems next year

and that still leaves the Hawks in good position for a Dwight/Chris Paul run the following year.

Us making the playoffs as #4 seed screws us out of a lottery pick next year.

Also, I think the Celts have reloaded pretty effectively and are young now across the board with Fab Melo, Jared Sulinger, Rondo and Avery Bradley at key positions

They'll be back next year. Don't forget that New Jersey is now a solid regular season team also.

Lottery or playoffs, either way i'm happy, but i think Smith and Horford have more than enough talent to win games, unlike alot of Hawks fans who don't believe in Josh and Al

Ferry can't trade Josh if he wants to go after Dwight and nobody wants to see Al go.

Starting lineup is garbage without moving Al to PF and Josh to SF nothing was accomplished on the court with these trades

I'm on the addition-by-subtraction bandwagon in thinking we'll be deceptively good. What are y'alls thoughts on Harris at the point (more of a natural distributor than Teague)... then either shifting Teague off the ball or bringing him off the bench for what used to be Jamal/Flip Murray duty?

And if it blows up, who really cares? Lotto pick.

if Ferry is really going to make a play for CP3, then Teague needs to start and he needs to boost up his stats and then trade him for a low lotto or mid first round draft pick

if CP3 doesn't work out, then Teague would be a great plan "B" and resign him at $7-8 million per year.

i think everybody on the general board is expecting Ferry to make one or two more big moves, but i think he is done for the summer and will wait for 2013 summer. i think the roaster is basically set at:

Zaza/Petro
Horford/Ivan/Scott
Smoove/DeShawn
Morrow/Jenkins
Teague/Harris/Pargo

I hope TMac and Pargo come back. Scott might be sent to the DLeague, so that could make room for TMac.

If I've learned anything from baseball season, our biggest danger now may be too many players playing for a contract. All we have left are high-energy guys and one-year deals.

Larry Drew could fall *ss-backwards into Coach of the Year if we do make the playoffs and really screw us...

It all depends on what is the goal.
Josh+Howard+Paul, same+Al, Teague+Josh+Al+Howard,... some cases need to wait, some need to trade or sign-&-trade before February next summer.

I can honestly see Ferry trying to get Dwight now with Horford and Harris. We could send them the 1st we just picked up from Brooklyn/Houston as well if needed. We still have lots of flexibility with all the expiring deals still on the roster. Then next season we resign Smoove and Dwight and then make a run at CP. it's a dream for sure, but it's feasible considering what Ferry has done thus far.

The worst thing we could do is tank. One lousy shot at getting a high lottery pick is not worth ruining our team's play. If we are going to impress a FA, we'll have to make him think, that with him, we would be a contender. We need to play Horford and Smith at the positions they'd be playing if Howard played beside them and if Paul were passing the ball to them. They need to know what it'd look like ... and it'd have to look good. Every close game where Zaza comes up short will tell DH that, if HE were in there, we'd have won. Every time Teague misses an open man, CP needs to know he would have made the play.

And if Teague and Zaza play well, that'll be good, too, if we try to SNT them.

We had to give Jason Collins minutes...

But honestly, with Zaza and ivan, I don't see a reason he should have to get any minutes.

This would my lineup:

v1 - Horford at C

SF: Korver / Stevenson / Scott
PF: Smith / Johnson / J.Williams
C: Horford / Pachulia / Petro
PG: Harris / Teague / Farmar (expected to be bought out)
SG: Morrow / L.Williams / Jenkins

v2 - Horford at PF

SF: Smith / Korver / Stevenson
PF: Horford / Johnson / Scott
C: Pachulia / J.Williams / Petro
PG: Harris / Teague / Farmar
SG: Morrow / L.Williams / Jenkins

I think either lineup looks good and I expect coach Drew will adopted a horses for courses strategy in that he will switch between the two lineups depending on the opposition.

The only thing I would like to see is Teague being traded either in a deal for Dwight (with Horford) or for a legit starting small forward as I would like to see Jenkins get regular minutes in the rotation and I don't think he will get that as 3rd string guard.
