Or to acquire an underachieving veteran on a longer term contract from a team dumping salary.

Bargnani
Tayshaun Prine
Dannilo Gallinari

each come to mind.

I think he has more value as an expiring contract than as a starter at PG. That's not a knock on his talents, just the reality of the new CBA.

Gallo? Yeah, he really doesn't belong on that list. If we could get Gallo for Harris, you know....I can't actually think of some extreme to put here, but lets just say there is no way in hell that happens.

Now the other two? I would take either of them.

I think Devin Harris for Marcus Thornton could work for both teams.

Thornton would provide us a starting SG that we definately need, it would be a great addition.

For Sacramento, they would get an improvement at PG position and would dump salary, currently Evans and Fredette are ahead of Thornton at SG position on Smart`s mind, there is no need to pay 7m$ to a 3rd SG.

Probably will not happen but Thornton is not playing well for Sacramento and they don't have any confidence on him, he would be great for us.

They have too many "point guards" in Sacramento right now. Aaron Brooks, Isaiah Thomas and Jimmer are all point guards on this roster with Thornton and Evans playing the two.

I don't see them wanting to add another point.

Jimmer plays the 2 exclusively, they don't feel he can play the PG.

Brooks simply does not belong to the league and both Thomas and Brooks lack defense and size, they are destroyed every gam, Harris would be a huge upgrade over this 2 and would complement perfectly Evans. The problem is that Thornton is too good of a player to deal him but the reality is that Evans and Fredette are ahead of him.

Even if he would be a upgrade, they still would have 3 spots taken up by point guards, not counting the two shooting guard positions taken up by point guard sized 2 guards. That's 5 roster spots for guys with the size of point guards. That's just not a realistic trade unless we take on a longer contract and I don't think we want to do that.

Thornton is also an undersized SG and Evans is 6'6" that's huge size for a PG, I think they could definately cut Brooks.

The problem they have is defense and Harris can provide that at PG and SG, I doubt they would like to spend 7M$ on the fifth guy for the backcourt so they unload salary as well, anyway if we would have to take salary I would do as well, Thornton would be a great fit here.

I wouldn't take on salary for Marcus Thornton. It would hamper moves for next season just so we could have Marcus Thornton.

I also wouldn't pay Aaron Brooks 3 million dollars to go away, nor do I think Sacramento would.

On top of that, the one position we are loaded at is the 2 guard position. I personally think Jenkins is our future at that spot, and Lou is still a 2 guard.

I would take on salary for a legit defensive 3 or a extra big to back up Josh/Al/Zaza(I like Ivan and all, but Drew seems to not be in love with him).

I agree with Rip:

here is an option

Tolliver , Morrow and late ATL 2nd to MIN (where they do need a 2 to replace Roy who is not working out)

Derrick Williams to POR

JJ Hickson + late POR 2nd to ATL (climb a few spots)

Since Jenkins is coming along we could spare Morrow. JJ provides a better option than Tolliver inside and boost the frontline for the PO. 1 year contract/ does not hurt the cap. Can play the 4 or 5.

Thoughts?

I would love the trade. Would Minnesota though? While they aren't high on Derrick Williams, I would think they are getting better offers than a guy they didn't want to resign, Anthony morrow and a 2nd rounder for him. Also, I think Hickson is too important to Portland to give up for a Tweener when they have Aldridge and Batum at his two positions.
