Just for discussion (and because I'd like to see y'all's thoughts), what if we miss out on Howard and Paul - and even Jefferson?
THEN, who would you settle for in a deal, possibly where we spent our capspace?
Would you trade capspace for a Center?
Nene?
Okafor?
Biedrins?
Would you overpay a lesser FA?
The max to Pekovic?
Dalembert?
Kaman?
Oden?

Who are we willing to settle for?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I'd aim for Pekovic, for around $10MM a year. He's a classic bruiser inside, and between him and Zaza I believe we'd have the Soviet big men market cornered.

Pekovic definitely but if we don't get an impact player then I'd just go the Dallas route and sign some 1 year players then aim for a star in the 2014 class

I'm convinced Pekovic will get a max offer. Would we join in the bidding?

Re: Who are we willing to settle for?
Pekovic will get at least 12-13 M a season. He's not worth it though. Kaman would be a beast in the East. He could be had for cheap I think. Biedrins is HORRIBLE. Nene is good but can't stay healthy. Varejao is on the same boat. We should've traded Horford for Cousins last year. Now, we new ownership, the Kings won't let him go. Unfortunately, we dont have a lot of choices.
GO HAWKS.

Re: Who are we willing to settle for?
Kaman is old, injury prone, and makes Josh Smith look like goddamn Jason Kidd. No thanks.
I'd be fine with a slight overpay of Pekovic at $12-13M, given that it was a short term 2-3 year contract. However, if we pick him up, we probably can't also take on Josh, because otherwise we'd have around $38M tied up in our starting frontcourt, where Josh would need to be palying the 3 and spacing the floor. Ugh.
I also like Paul Millsap, who will probably make $9-12M a year, and I believe COULD coexist with Josh. We'd have a really big frontcourt lineup then that would be an absolute monster on the boards, and Millsap can also shoot a little.
JJ Hickson is intriguing, based on his play this year and obvious athleticism, but I'd be hesitant to toss him anything more than $7MM a year, probably not enough to land his services. He's kind of a higher risk/reward guy.
Some non-sexy names that I'd like: Dorell Wright, both Brewers, Cole Aldrich.

Re: Who are we willing to settle for?
Brandon Jennings is a young player I think would do well here. He's a big time scorer and we need a dynamic scorer. He'd be pretty unstoppable in th pick and roll with either AL or Josh.
I also really like Kevin Martin if Korver leaves. But not in a backcourt with Jennings.
JJ Hickson would do well here, also. I'm a big fan of his work. I don't see much risk in bringing him here as he can play the 3, 4 or 5. It's worth noting that he and Ferry still have a good rapport from their Cleveland days.

What are you guys' thoughts on O.J Mayo's career resurrection?
Worth a look at PG or SG?

I was disappointed when we passed on the chance to draft him. What would we look like with an above-average true Center? I remain confused as to why we never try to develop one.

If we spent our cash on him, how much better would we be? Is he better than Joe Johnson?
Besides, I'm intrigued by Jenkins ... and I like giving Lou Williams major minutes.

Re: Who are we willing to settle for?
Fair question. I always thought that JJ was the most talented player on our team. He led us in scoring for all six years and led us in assists for 5 out of 6 years.
It was that exorbitant contract that made keeping JJ untenable. If we get JJ like production for $10-12 million a year (from OJ), I believe that's a deal.
You are right, however: OJ, Louis and Jenkins would all step on each other's toes in terms of playing time and style. Too much redundancy.

Plus, we really need a bruiser inside.
