Josh Smith left of All Star Team

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Fri Jan 25, 2013 2:29 am

Not a huge surprise Smoove didn't make it. There are a few obvious reasons why:

-Josh's start to the season was a bit underwhleming in his first season as the undisputed 'best player' on the team. He started the seaosn in a serious shooting slump with a FG% around 39% for the first couple of weeks.

-The team's recent slide in January had to have played a big role. As the team fell in the standings from 3rd place to 6th place by going 4-8 in the early part of the month.

-Suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. As Kenny Smith put it: "You talk bad to coaches, other coaches hear that." Josh chose the wrong time of year to spout off. Plain and simple.

It's probably to our benefit as Josh will now proceed to avg 25pts & 15 rebs for the next 5 weeks, like he always does after his All-Star snubs.

Thoughts?
Does this help or hurt in our efforts to re-sign him this summer?
Does Josh have anyone to blame but himself?
Surprised Horford didn't warrant a selection?
Think Josh deserve to go more than Bosh or Noah?
Any chance Josh gets selected as an injury replacement?

Would take J-Smoove over Noah without a shadow of doubt

I don't think Chris Bosh and Luol Deng deserve to be in the All-Star game any more than Josh Smith, Brook Lopez, Paul Pierce or Brandon Jennings.

Kennys comment is full of crap honestly. There is always a reason pulled out of the national media's rear to talk about Josh Smtih.

THAT said, the team was stacked and I can't really point anyone out that should be gone. However, for us to be 2 games out of third and Have NO allstars and the team with one more win than us to have 2, something is off.

For all the flack about Smith 17/8/4 asst/2blocks and a steal. Its honestly a little silly he hasn't made a allstar team by no actually.

Their stats are eerily similar. Steals, assists, blocks, FG% all identical.

Josh avg more points, but Noah avg more rebs and has a much higher PER....

I think the main difference at this point is their reputations around the league. Joakim was known as immature early in his career, but since then has anchored the defense on the best defensive team for the last couple of years.

FOR MANY REASONS, Josh Smith is NOT the type of player most coaches would like to have on their team, so why the surprise?

Being completely objective is tough but the east my starters would be
EAST
PG-Rondo/Kyrie
SG-Wade/JR Smith/Paul George
SF-Carmelo Anthony/Smoov
PF-Lebron
C-Lopez/Noah

I think Smoov deserves to be there, his numbers make the case alone and he is probably a top tier defender. Hes not a starter, but a reserve for sure IMO. Not many are better than him at his position looking at just numbers.

I think the thing that sucks is there are several people on both sides that really dont belong there. BIG TIME Celtic fan and i love KG, but hes not an all star this year. I dont think Dwight Howard is a all star either. Ibaka and Demarcus Cousins should be there , not D12 and Tim DUncan.

Nothing to take away from Duncan who is having a great season, but I look at the numbers Cousins puts up, Ibaka is having a great year, I just feel like Duncan and D12 are voted in on name recognition alone.

Jamal Crawford , Curry, Smoov all should be there.

Duncan? Duncan should be starting dude. The Kings are losing ALOT. I don't feel you got snubbed if you aren't even in the playoffs at the allstar break. He and Cousins have basically the same numbers, one team is near the top of the NBA and the other is near the bottom...there isn't really a debate there to me. I also can't see the logic of Kyrie over Jennings.

Besides Aldridge (who leads all big men in scoring) and Westbrook (who impacts the game in a myriad of ways) it's rather clear that coaches valued greater efficiency when considering between guys putting up comparable stats. With that said.....Jennings and Cousins are no where in the league of Duncan and Kyrie to be perplexed over their selections. Team record doesn't get you an auto-bid over guys putting up superior stats and efficiency otherwise we'd have to question why JR Smith didn't get a spot over Paul George.

Paul George is definitely playing better than JR Smith. Smith is a high volume chucker. No way he deserves to be there over Paul George.

No way Cousins makes the all-star team. That guy shoots 44%. Thats pathetic for a big man. Dwight and Duncan are statistically doing better than Cousins and Ibaka. Duncan and Dwight >>>>>> Cousins and Ibaka.

I'm a little surprised Deng made they team. KG doesn't deserve to be on the team.

Steph Curry should have definitely made it. Oh well.

Deng hasn't showed me much to say he deserved an AS selection. Smith just gets snubbed once again.

I'm not all surprised that Josh didn't make it, he's still an immature player and we've been struggling of late, Coaches look at everything not just the stats. I don't mind him not being an all star really, especially because this might help us resign him to a more reasonable deal. I'm a little surprised that Al wasn't even mentioned, his start to the season was epic

Cousins has had some MONSTER games. Sure its a LITTLE bit of a stretch, but in the West i dont think D12 is auto starter

KG shouldnt be there

Seeing way too many comparisons as to why coaches have chosen Deng to be the new Joe Johnson in terms of why they keep selecting him.
