taking a as an example last night's game, I would not trade Smith never, but I would try to find a different role for him in the team.
If we could get a decent center, Horford could play more as a 4, while Smith could play more as a 3, and then we could be a team and uses different line-ups for different situations.
Smith would be a perfect 6th man that energizes the team when he gets into the court and also could substitute any of the 3 frontcourt players of the starting line-up (center, Horford or Marvin).
If we get a deal for Crawford with a team that wants to save money by mid-season, we could have the money to get a decent center that can defend tougher and taller guys or, at least someone who can split minutes with Pachulia.
Also if the management decides that Teague and Crawford can be our future guards (with the help of JJ and Sy), Bibby could be expendable.
Also if they had seen that Collins and Thomas woud not played a minute, their 2 and a 1/2 millions could have been spent in getting a decent center who can at least give 10/15 minutes of defense, rebounds, shot blocking and some points. It is increadible that a team like the Wolves has three centers and Love and we only have Zaza as the only on that can be considered a center of certain quality.
I would love to see a roster like this one:
Teague ------- Bibby
JJ ------- Crawford (R)
Marvin ------- Smith
Horford ------- Powell
center ------- Pachulia

Re: MUST READ: Hawks next move?
Just before the season started, when reports surfaced about forward Carmelo Anthony wanting out of Denver, Bay Area News Group reported that the Warriors were offering anyone but Curry to get Anthony. As early as October, rumors circulated about the Warriors dangling Ellis to try to get someone such as Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala or Atlanta's Josh Smith.
At this point, neither Iguodala nor Smith would be enough in return for Ellis. One source said the Warriors probably wouldn't part with Ellis even if it meant landing Anthony, who some consider a top-five player in the NBA.

Very interesting to see how Golden State values Eliis and I understand why.
I wanted Billy Knight to draft Ellis (so did Hoops I believe) or Louis Williams, but we all know how badly Billy Knight messed up our second round picks during that draft.

If Atlanta needs cap space, they'll move Marvin. Smith is probably the least touchable player outside of Horford.
Marvin and JJ aren't going to be tradable for years....
JJ's way too expensive and too long-term.
Marvin's production is lacking and he's also too long-term.
Smith really is your best tradeable asset although he's also one of your best players....
IMO, its either trade Smith or be stuck with a core of JJ, Smith, Horford, Marvin, Zaza, Teague long-term.
Which is a pretty good core to be stuck with. like any team,ATL could use a lucky surprise,a better than expected draft pick, trade,MLE guy. It happens, especially if you do the research and development. Trading Smith for an impact 7 ft C...makes sense...if that guy is available...and he isn't.
Meanwhile,Horford handles the role well. Marvin has improved a bit,I could see him being swapped but I doubt that's much more than a lateral move with at best maybe ATL gets a better fit.
CENSORED... No comment.

A "glorified" role player that averages 22 ppg, 6 apg, 5 rpg, 1 spg since he's been with the Hawks?
Sounds like someone is bitter that you don't have him anymore and and all you got for him was Boris Diaw
I agree with you, except on one thing : you can't tell him they got Boris Diaw only, it's just changing what happened.
the reality is that they got (even if they were stutipd enough to sell picks like they did) Diaw (with financial flexibility to sign Barbosa and him for the same price than only Joe), the pick of Robin Lopez... and the pick of Rajon Rondo !!!
It's sad, but it's the reality, we send Diaw+pick of Rondo+pick of Lopez for Joe.
Never forget that

Re: MUST READ: Hawks next move?
The problem is that JSmoove is playing great and kaman is not playing even decently.
Also, regarding this last proposal, we do not need to get the contracts of Kaman and Davis. Especially that of Davis, when we are not getting rid of any bad contract, just a half-bad contract in Williams, and are getting two fat contracts in return. Kaman is owed 2 years at 11.300.000-12.200.000 and Davis is owed 3 years at 13.000.000-13.950.000-14.850.000, which is crazy.
Also the problem would be that, by adding Kaman, our inside game would be strong, but we would be losing two great shooters from 3 and a decent mid-range shooter and replacing them with a fat point guard that cannot get a ball inside the net from further than 3 ft.

Hey, not like I was wrong. We moved Joe and Marvin first.
