I'm bored of talking Millsap/Asik, the Nets pick, Millsap beasting, or Style Korver killin it from 3. Let's talk something new.
DeMarre Carroll. Currently our starting SF, signed for just about $2.5M a year for two years as a FA from Utah. Thoughts as we approach the quarter mark of the season?

Re: DeMarre Carroll
I've wondered for a few weeks now, if Marvin Williams could have had a similar impact to what Carroll is giving to us in the system we run now. I understand that Marvin more than most players needed a fresh start elsewhere.
But in a fluid, wide-open system that featured him cutting to the basket as opposed to simply catching the ball on the wing for one-on-one plays, and with the faster pace we attempt to play in a more disciplined, organized offense...could Marvin have at least turned into a consistent 15 ppg scorer?
I like DeMarre and the Devil-may-care style of play he brings. All top teams need a player willing to do the little things, the drty work on the court. I never wonder if he'll bring effort/energy to the court, which I used to about our old PF/SF duo.

I love what Carroll brings to the table. It's hard to find a starter in the NBA for 2.5 M/year. He's limited offensively but plays within the system for most part and can play D. Now, he'd be better if we had a SG who could create their own shot. Since we don't, sometimes he's forced to do things he's not very comfortable at offensively. He helps with rebounding as well, so again, for what you pay him, you shouldn't ask for a whole lot more.
GO HAWKS.

Interesting thought. If Ferry opted to, I have no doubt that we could sign Marvin in FA next year, so maybe we'll see if Marvin steps out.

Looking at the Spurs over the years, a long-armed, defense-minded SF has always been a part of their scheme. That's why Kawhi Leonard's so important to them: he's all that and a good offensive player, as well. Marvelous could thrive if used like Leonard.
On the other hand, there's a lot of dog in Carroll that may be missing in Marvelous. Whether it's a lack of heart or a lack of intelligence, there's definitely something lacking.
It would depend on the signing cost.

Re: DeMarre Carroll
Sorry, the question was DeMarre Carroll (Am I still a Marvin Williams fan? Why do you ask?).
The guy's supplying 9.7 pts/gm, 1.6 assists/gm and a terrific 6.1 reb/gm, all while playing good defense and hustling all over the court. Everyone brags on Shane Battier; Carroll is doubling his scoring, tripling his rebounding, shooting better from the floor and from 3 and appears to me to be playing at least as well defensively. Aaaaand, we're paying Carroll less ($2,557,545 compared to Battier's $3,270,000).
He's been a great signing.

Re: DeMarre Carroll
I love DeMarre's motor, which Utah fans told me to expect (although seeing it first hand is much more satisfying), but I'm extremely surprised by his basketball IQ. The guy makes good decisions consistently, and almost never has dumb turnovers. He doesn't have great court vision to find easy baskets for teammates, and he could work on his 3pt shooting, but for the price I think he's an absolute steal.

Re: DeMarre Carroll
Biggest gripe with DMC is his tunnel vision on the break. You just know that it's going to be some contorted prayer of a shot rather than an easy dumpoff to the player trailing him. I don't know what it is exactly, a "get mine" attitude or he truly lacks court vision.
