According to Zach Lowe,
Other teams say Detroit indeed shopping Josh Smith, but demanding more than just dead expirings.

They refused a free do-over.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

^Not too surprising. DET actually traded Ben Gordon and a 1st round Pick to Charlotte 18 months ago for the expiring contract of Corey Maggette all so they could pursue a top free agent last summer. They were rebuffed by Iggy, so put all their marbles on J-Smoove.

Giving Smith away for expirings would have been to admit that Dumars wasted a lottery pick altogether with no tangible benefit from the moves.

NOTE: Josh Smith is a friggin' blockhead.
