Hawks Cap Situation for 2014 FA

I am glad Stenphenson's name emerged in a thread before I made one. It just came to me that Stephenson could be our guy. Atlanta could possibly be the place he thrives in. A possible scenario I thought of would be the Hawks stealing Lance on a Milsap type deal, then trading Sap to Houston(or third team) for Parsons, and finaly fill out the roster with quality depth.

A possible scenario I thought of would be the Hawks stealing Lance on a Milsap type deal, then trading Sap to Houston(or third team) for Parsons, and finaly fill out the roster with quality depth.

One thought about this plan is, instead of Parsons, would it make more sense to chase Monroe with Millsap? We could structure the deal around Millsap + Payne for Monroe - I'd even swallow Jerebko's contract if they wanted me to. For us, we get the C to move Horford over and a young duo (along with Stephenson in your scenario) to go forward with. DET sets their big man rotation with a (semi-)local kid in Payne who could play next to Drummond and back him up. Also frees them to pull the trigger on the rumored Josh Smith to SAC deal while giving them leverage to ask for more expirings back. Thoughts?

I think they'd have to execute that Josh trade first beforehand otherwise fear being caught holding the bag with Josh, Sap and Drummy. Even then all Sac has are PFs to trade for Josh, that's going to be a very crowded rotation making a lot of money.

Honestly, those 3 fit much better than their current 3. Josh can play the 3 on D and the 4 on O while Millsap switches with him. I don't think Millsap is deadeye from range, but he's definitely better than any of their current 3 and opens up room for Drummond to work. IF SVG is planning on putting a bunch of shooters around the top notch C like he did with Dwight in ORL, then Millsap and Payne work better than Monroe and Smith anyway. At least now he can feasibly trade Smith without having to demand even a backup grade replacement unless there was one that he actually wanted.

I was just throwing a proposal out there. I was thinking Parsons since we drafted Payne and Taveras. Taveras has to be closer than Bebe was in terms of NBA readiness or otherwise I don't think we would have got rid of Bebe just yet. By all means though, I honestly preferred Monroe when I was thinking it up. Problem is, we have to find a 3rd team willing to take Sap. Houston would probably still be a key player, as they could give Detroit Parson, we get Monroe, and Houston ends up with Sap. Regardless, I think Stephenson would be a big move we might want to invest in.

Honestly, I don't think Tavares is closer than Bebe. Bebe played basketball and was known as a prospect for much, much longer. I think the bigger deal is that we just decided that the antics Bebe pulled over the last year and variability going forward were too much for someone we didn't view as anything more than a garbage time end of the bench type guy for year or two at least. As far as seeing them as prospects, I could actually see Bebe developing into a contributor at the NBA level... Tavares - eh, not so much.

As for the trade, maybe it's me, but I can't see why DET would be eager to ship Millsap elsewhere. I don't think SVG is looking to go through a rebuilding effort and Millsap was an AS last season. In terms of skills, he actually matches up pretty well with Smith and/or Drummond (albeit Smith and Drummond are redundant in many areas). A starting 5 of Jennings/Singler/Josh/Millsap/Drummond isn't bad and could actually be decent team if kids like KCP and Mitchell stepped up.

It's now being reported that we have been added as a suitor for Gasol. There's no telling what's going to happen.
