Hawks for a UK fan?

Post#1 » by Duane2390 » Sat Sep 20, 2014 7:18 pm

Hi guys, I am an English in the UK and a fan of the Nfl and nba, I have currently been in debate on the board as to which team I should support from the east coast of America which is closer to my time zone both in the nfl and the nba. In the nfl I have looked at the Eagles and watched a documentary series about the Falcons, I must admit the Falcons have taken my fancy. With not knowing a great lot about nba teams I wanted to know realistically how good the Hawks actually are? Are they playoff contenders?, are they a team that could win the nba? Are they exciting and worthy of watching in the regular season?
All feedback will be appreciated
Thanks

That's... Interesting.

I don't see us as a championship contender but I would say the Hawks are a 2nd tier team in the Eastern Conference. With health and some luck, we could make the conference finals (which would be the semi-finals for the entire NBA). Having said that, we could miss the playoffs entirely with a bad injury and some bad bounces. In the NBA, 16 out of 30 teams make the playoffs, so missing the playoffs is pretty bad.

Sure, I'm biased, but I think our brand of basketball is exciting. We play with pace and flash a high octane offense that depends on jump shooting from deep to open up the Pick and Roll game. We're undersized around the basket so our D is dependent on stopping drives with Help D coming from the perimeter (specifically the nail) over having a big man down low that opponents' wouldn't challenge.

You can't discuss the Hawks right now without mentioning our current scandal though. The owner made some stereotyping remarks when discussing our fan bases (to both blacks & whites IMO); the (ex?) GM also made some even worse prejudicial comments in a conference call. (Aside: he claims he was reading from a report... Which would have been written by someone who'd report to him - so possibly even worse than if he said it.)

This isn't the most active Hawks' board so we'd appreciate more fans around here!

Yeah I see what your saying. Reaching the conference finals isn't bad, if 16 out of 30 teams make the play offs then I suppose it is pretty bad to miss out on them. Have the Hawks always been a team that makes the post season?
I will watch some of their game highlights to see how they play.

I didn't know about the scandal because the nba isn't really news broadcasted in the UK. But I will certainly look at it now, do you think there will be a big shake up in terms of staff now then? Maybe this could help the Hawks?.

How long have you been a hawks fan? Do you live in Atlanta?

This is where the Hawks have been extremely successful. The Atlanta Hawks have reached the playoffs 7 consecutive seasons. We also have a lot of very exciting players on our team. One of my favorites is Kyle Korver. Last season he set a ridiculous streak of making a 3 pointer in 127 consecutive games. He also is the best 3 point shooter in the NBA and shot an amazing 47% from the 3 point line.
