Re: 2015 Summer League Thread
Watching my first real Summer League game in detail right now, here are my impressions.
Pettaway is producing but don't know how he'd really fit on a team with better talent when he's not touching the ball every possession, or against better competition.
Lamar Patterson is such a heady player. He's what I imagine a wing version of Andre Miller would look like, with his old man game.
Glenn Robinson seems like the opposite - FREAK athlete, but I don't know he doesn't seem to have that sort of game sense Patterson does.
I think those are the only 3 that we'd realistically be considering, given our team needs and that we only have two slots. I'd actually be pretty happy if we signed any two of them, but my preference would be that we sign Patterson and Robinson.

Any of these guys got the potential to be our 'Danny Green' moving forward? Learn the fundamentals of our system and become a key cog moving in the future?

My vote is for Robinson and its not even close. His athleticism is impressive but what has been the most impressive for me has been his hustle and dedication. His hustle reminds me of a young Carroll.

Re: 2015 Summer League Thread
I don't think any of them will bring exactly what Green brings in terms of shooting and defense rolled in one, but I think Patterson and Robinson COULD potentially be real contributors.
Robinson has a real high upside based on the level of his athleticism. He's a freak. He's also playing aggressively now, which was one of the biggest knocks on him in college. It feels like the tools are all there - he just needs to put it all together and polish his game by doing the little things. If he does he can be a quality starter for a contender - I think the Ariza comparison is pretty good.
Patterson's upside is capped by his lack of athleticism and explosiveness... but I think he could come in and play ready minutes for us right now just based on his command of the floor, vision, and awareness. Plus, he brings enough shooting to the table that he's not a non-factor without the ball either. Defensively he's kinda like Korver in that he doesn't have great size and he lacks quickness so he'd get shredded by superstars like Harden or Durant, but I think he'd be an adequate team defender. He reminds me of a cross between Andre Miller from 3-4 years ago and current Paul Pierce.
Overall he could be a starter in the league, but he'd very much be a system guy - kinda like Diaw. Ideally he's better coming off the bench and either running the bench offense, or serving as a secondary facilitator. I think he'd be a good foil for Dennis when Dennis is playing out of control
Just look at this ****:

I think that video encapsulates both guys' strengths

Yeah, he's looked really impressive this summer. For all the misses Ferry accumulated in 1st round draft picks, his eye for talent in the 2nd round is undeniable.
Really wishing we had our own D-League franchise right now.

Re: 2015 Summer League Thread
I know its very early development wise, but Tavares did not show me anything in this Spurs game. We may have jumped too quick on this transaction IMO.
I thought Moose should have been a point/rebound leader as well; he's playing alot of minutes.
Robinson and Pettaway have looked like camp invites, and Patterson will get a shot also.

Re: 2015 Summer League Thread
Edy is still adjusting to the game speed but he is going to be a good contributor.
Patterson, I just love his understanding of basketball. He plays like a vet. Alot it what he does isn't going to jump at you in stats, but his bbiq is up there and I think he could contribute now. Robinson is the piece moving forward that could be special. He isn't ready now, but the guys defensive hustle, freaky athletisim, and traces of a good shooter are all things I am loving.
Pettaway is basically Mike Scott. And I would be fine moving Scott and giving Pettaway his spot. I think Scott is at his ceiling. Pettaway has room to grow.

Re: 2015 Summer League Thread
I think today's game showed a lot of the limitations of those 3 guys.
Petteway couldn't get his shot to fall and basically didn't do anything else to help the team.
Patterson played okay but he also forced a lot of drives when our offense stalled, and he just doesn't have the explosiveness to blow by guys. Footwork helps but it's not the answer to everything.
Robinson played aight including having a nice dunk but didn't contribute much else.
Jonathan Simmons looked really good for the Spurs. Will probably crack the rotation later in the season.

I remember that year when we drafted Horford and he and Sheldon Williams were on the SL Team. Sheldon played like an All Star calibur player and AL looked so so/iffy at best. Now tell me why the summer league clarifies your judgment so quickly on any player? I liked what I saw from G. Robinson III, he needs to be here in training camp.

Re: 2015 Summer League Thread
Couple of notes on players from around the league:
Bebe ended the week avg 10 rebounds & 2.6 blocks per game.
Portis ended the week avg 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Justin Anderson avg 17 points & 4 rebounds while shooting 38% from 3-pt range.
HereFrom Peachtree Hoops:
- Lucas Nogueira, Toronto Raptors - Lucas has been very, very good. In fact, Nogueira leads LVSL in rebounding (11.5 per game) and he has looked the part as a potential impact guy up front. Offense is still a bit of a challenge, but he is long and athletic with some skills around the rim, and Nogueira's body is beginning to fill out...Nogueira looks poised to potentially haunt the Hawks down the line if he can maintain this upward trajectory.
- Justin Anderson, Dallas Mavericks - Anderson is shooting just 40% from the floor, but aside from that, he's been fantastic. Our our Red Rev was a large proponent of the former Virginia swingman, and Anderson has been one of the best players in Las Vegas while averaging 16.4 points per game while playing quality defense on the wing.
- Bobby Portis, Chicago Bulls - he looked every bit like the best player in Las Vegas while dropping 23 points and 7 rebounds against Karl-Anthony Towns. The former Arkansas big man has (mercifully) cooled since then, but Portis is still averaging 12 and 7 for the week, and he's been fairly impressive at times.

Re: 2015 Summer League Thread
Also, one of the prospects we passed on in the 2014 draft has looked really good when given the opportunity to play:
This comes after being recognized multiple times earlier this year for his work in the D-League. I think SAS has a definite substitute for Diaw moving forward. Not bad for the last pick in the 1st round.
These awards mean nothing when it comes to what he can and will be at the next level, but the fact he seems to be excelling in their system bodes well for his trade value or for him getting the opportunity with the big league squad in SA.
HereKyle Anderson...The 30th pick a year ago, was named the NBA Las Vegas Summer League MVP on Sunday by a vote of the media.
Anderson has averaged 22 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.3 steals in leading the Spurs to a 5-1 record and the Summer League Championship Game.

What the hell are you talking about? Sheldon in his first summer league only averaged 8pt/5reb, atleast Horford averaged a decent 10pt/10reb in his first summer league.

Seth Curry played for the Pelicans in the summer league but then signed with the Kings.
Jarell Eddie played for the Spurs in the summer league. I hope the Hawks take another look at the guy, because he was like the Kyle Korver of this year's summer league.
