Again I think people need to temper expectations. This team isn't very good outside of like 3 players.

This is the team I thought we would have seen last year, a 45-50 win team.

Instead they went on a 19-0 tear and shot the lights out of the gym. That one performance skewed everyone's opinion of the team.

THAT TEAM ISNT WALKING THROUGH THE DOOR.

They also did nothing to address any of the problems over the trade deadline. So don't expect much different outcmes.

I think that is exactly why people are upset. They didn't make a deal so when they aren't win it is basically a "told ya so" to Bud.

You're absolutely right. But the frustrating thing is the fact that they're losing to these below .500 teams.

Getting swept by Monnesota is inexcusable, the loss to Miami without their three best players, two L's to Milwaukee, losing to Phoenix. Not counting the wins against Philly, this team is 12-11 against below .500 teams.

Last 3 home games:
Orlando: L. Led by as many as 20 and were facing a Magic team that had lost 9 of their last 10 before sweeping the Hawks in back to back games.
Miami: L. Heat were without their three best players (Wade, Bosh, Whiteside) and still put up 115 and beat the Hawks.
Bucks: L. Hawks were 10 point favorites and Milwaukee was 7-24 on the road for the season.

Embarrassing. This team has flaws(obviously), but they should have gone 3-0 in that stretch and did the exact opposite. Now they get to lose by 30 to the Warriors at home on Monday if the Warriors are even remotely motivated. Replicating last season wasn't realistic, but expecting wins over below average competition was realistic and the Hawks have continued to drop game after game they should have won this season. Hell, they got swept by the Timberwolves and have dropped games to the 14-41 Suns and 15-40 Nets. They got swept in a back to back with Orlando and the KNICKS this season. I'm not going to go crazy over the lack of moves at the deadline if there weren't any good offers out there. You don't just throw away good players for the hell of it, but it's obvious this team needs a major retooling.

You guys keep saying "they lost to sub .500 teams".....

Has it occurred to you the Hawks are a .500 team? They aren't that much better than bucks/Orlando/Detroit/Miami etc.

I'm sorry the Miami game was atrocious I'll give you that. But, they are what they are , which is a mildly better than average team.

Watching DS running the show down the stretch against MIL really illustrated the pros and cons of having a young guard playing point in high pressure moments.

His aggressiveness and scoring prowess were undeniable in key moments in the 4th quarter and 1st OT. But his lack of poise and poor decision making was on display at times, also...particularly in the 2nd OT.

I've believed that DS should have been starting this entire season. That he is ready, even as I acknowledge their will be moments of erratic play and the need to break him from the constant over dribbling he is accustomed to.

But a young guard capable of flirting with a triple double, pushing the ball in transition, playing top flight on-ball defense and shoot efficiently from the floor...deserves PT.

The two man game DS and Horford played at the end of 1 OT was a thing of beauty:

DS just never looks afraid like Teague does. DS has a swagger to his game that no other Hawks player seems to have. He wants the big shot even tho his 3pt shot isn't there yet. These are things why he should be starting ahead of Teague. Mike Woodson made Teague afraid and I assume it's why he tries to play it safe, because with his speed he should be in attack mode at all time.

Closes thing to a Hawk player with a Killer instinct is DS he will make his mistakes, but it's time for him to start...

ATL Boy wrote:Also, I love Millsap, but he has not hit a single clutch shot this year, I'm not even exaggerating, I haven't seen him hit one.

Looks like others have also taken note of how ineffective Millsap plays in big moments:

...[Hawks] have lost eight of their last nine games that were within five points in the last five minutes, with Paul Millsap shooting 3-for-20 on clutch shots (0-for-5 against Milwaukee on Saturday).
Per NBA.com

15% from the field in such situations over the last few weeks...that is damning.
