where

Is

HIS

ATTORNEY?!?!?!?!?

:nonono:

I've read (conflicting) reports that they were headed back to Virginia on his way to his youth basketball camp....

Such a shame. The whole situation is just an embarrassment to all parties.

I know enough people have flipped through a show on Bravo or A&E or whatever or even seen that Kyra Sedgwick show on TNT come on after games to know that once these "interviewers" (because "interrogators" has a bad connotation for juries) get you in the box alone....... you're done.

What a disgrace.

At least he was man enough to own up to it and take full responsibility.

25 years is absurd. Dude made a mistake, but this is further proof that our drug laws in this country are absolutely ****.

Dude had pot and molly. One drug makes you lazy, the other is something a bunch of rich people take at parties. They don't ruin lives, and the only way I would even begin talking about jail time is if his younger brother was under the influence of either whilst driving. But 25 years for possession? You have to be **** me.

Fortunately he has the money to hire a good attorney, and I hope he's able to work it down to probation, or at the worst, only a little bit of time. Making a stupid decision is not justification to take this dude's entire **** life away, especially for one substance that flat-out shouldn't be illegal, and another that does virtually no harm in controlled environments.

Sorry for the expletive driven response. Drug law reform is one of the things I feel the most strongly about, so this is absolutely infuriating for me. I know the first reaction will be to lambast Scott, and he deserves some scorn. Idiotic decision. But let's be clear, dude's life effectively hangs in the balance right now. And he absolutely does not deserve that.

I'm a Hornets fan, for what it's worth. Felt compelled to come here and vent about this. Sorry this **** keeps happening to you guys.

Jamaaliver wrote:Old guy question: Molly = Ecstasy, right?

Ideally, ecstasy is simply the pill/capsuled version of MDMA (Molly). Unfortunately, ecstasy is quite frequently cross-contaminated (usually intentionally) with other drugs, which range anywhere from caffeine all the way to the extreme end of the spectrum with things like DXM and Meth.

Molly is the powder form (occasionally put into gel caps), and it is considered "pure" MDMA. It's a much, much safer drug than ecstasy, and a large amount of scientific evidence is being released that it has potential wide-ranging medicinal properties. A lot of money is being put into research regarding its usefulness in regards to treating PTSD and various other mental disorders.

Agreed. But that possible 25 year sentence is just the maximum allowed for this type of violation. As a first time, non-violent offender, it's doubtful he sees any jail time.

The local prosecutor would have to be incredibly spiteful and a glory hound to even seek it.

But, for the life of me, I can't fathom a young man in his position speaking to police without first asking for his lawyer.

A point his parents, agent and attorney have no doubt hammered home since this happened.

Interrogators, I'm sorry, interviewers* are very good at their job. They aren't street patrolmen but detective/sergeant grade and higher seasoned vets with hundreds if not thousands of interviews* underneath their belt. They know all the tricks. For a guy like Mike Scott I don't think he's run afoul of the law much so the whole experience of going to jail was most likely very jarring to expect a logical response on his part. Listen to the interviewer too, he's not being accusatory but rather almost sympathetic in tone in explaining the charges and even addressing Mike's concerns over whether the media would get a hold of info about his arrest (did a big face palm while watching the vid at that moment). You could see that Mike's concerns were warped though given the litany of experiences that he was going through that even after a man tells him he's facing felony charges he's equally concerned about media attention.

They know your rights and even if you know them too they know little tricks to get around them to get you talking, because that's all it is, talk, right? A poster on another Hawks fansite posted a videotaped law school lecture on not talking to the police that gave equal time to a law professor espousing never to do it and a police detective who was getting his law degree discussing the different manners and ways that he's been able to get a confession. If you're interested I can attempt to find it (it's about an hour long so be forewarned) but one of the biggest takeaways that the detective said allows him to do his job effectively is that people inherently always want to tell their story. So despite having the full matter of your rights and consequences told to you, people still have a desire to express their side of the story and the police are more than happy to take advantage of it.

I think that video really encapsulates Mike's personality in a nutshell - good guy who wants to make sure his little brother doesn't get in trouble, but not smart enough to keep his mouth shut until his lawyer gets there.

Very much this. I'm thinking he HAS to be coming down from his high to make such monumentally poor decisions.

And then his interrogation is caught on camera and on the interwebs in perpetuity. :nonono:

A simple, quick call to his agent and then silence...that's all he needed to get this thing squashed from the start.

<sigh>

He's old enough to know better, too.

And don't even get me started on his brother fleeing from the cops on a traffic stop for 'Following too closely'. :banghead:

Just across the board bad decision making.

A notice of accusation has been filed by the Banks County District Attorney’s office against Hawks forward Mike Scott following his arrest on felony drug charges in July.

Such a notice is a formal criminal charge against a person alleged to have committed an offense punishable by law which is presented before a court. No arraignment date has been set for Scott, who could waive his right to the hearing. The case was not presented to a grand jury.

The Hawks have said they will not comment on the case. Scott could face disciplinary action from the Hawks and the NBA.

Scott just finished his fourth season with the Hawks. Scott earned $3.3 million last season after he re-signed with the Hawks in August 2014. The Hawks have a team option for $3.3 million for next season. The contract would be guaranteed if the option is not declined by July 10.

it would be nice for Scott to get this behind him to determine what options he gives us for next year.

Did it affect his play this year? He disappeared many times IMO, but he hasn't exactly been the most consistent.

He appears to have a realistic shot at not being on this roster next year.

No date set as far as I know.
And the County that filed the case have some issues going on.
ORIGINAL STORY (9/16/15):

It's a troublesome development in a Georgia county that has already seen more than its share of shadows cast over the district attorney's office.

An investigation centers on the evidence room at the Banks County Jail, which is about 73 miles northeast of Atlanta. According to authorities, evidence might be missing from the room, or perhaps, never made it in the room to begin with.

It all started when the Banks County sheriff picked up on some peculiarities in a local prosecutor's record keeping. The sheriff brought his concerns to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and now the investigation is centered directly on assistant district attorney Sam Skelton.

Right now investigators won't say what kind of evidence might have been stolen. But without saying exactly what's missing, the sheriff's department hinted at what kinds of things could be contained in the evidence room.
