Hawks on a winning streak now with 2 in a row. Having won 3 of our last 4 games, we are now officially only the third worst team in the league based on tie breakers and head to head records.

Re: Hawks surging into the New Year?
Rebounding is important to winning.
This likely due to the return of a number of previously injured big men.
Just imagine the rebounding numbers with a stud like Ayton in the middle!!!

Re: Hawks surging into the New Year?
I definitely there is a direct correlation between the return of the bigs, the improved rebounding and the majority of our wins coming during this stretch.
What do you guys see? Is it a scheme change? Are the wings/bigs actively attacking the offensive glass or are the bigs in better position get those 50/50 balls?

Re: Hawks surging into the New Year?
Dedmon is back. That's the difference maker.
Other factors though are that Bud, somewhat unnoticed, got Delaney playing better at PG which got Dennis playing better when Bud kept him on the bench in favor of Malcolm in a couple fourth quarters.

All our bigs are healthy.
Ersan missed games, as well as Collins and Dedmon. Having to play Plumlee, Cavanaugh, Babbit in their place wasn't ideal.

Re: Hawks surging into the New Year?
All of this success is coming at home too (something I've been advocating: if you're gonna win do it at home). We're in the middle of this big home stretch right now, and we could find ourselves slipping in the tanking ranking come be end of January.

Team is 7-7 in last month
Here are three reasons why the Hawks have been better over the past month:
1. They are healthier
Until recently, injuries left the Hawks without key rotation players for extended periods. That’s especially true in the frontcourt, which had figured to be the team’s deepest area before injuries took their toll.
2. They are better on defense
Statistically, the Hawks are significantly worse on defense than they were in any of Budenholzer’s four previous seasons. The Hawks ranked 14th in defensive efficiency during his first season and seventh or better over the next three. The Hawks rank 26th in defensive efficiency this season, but there’s been significant improvement over the past month.
In the past 14 games, the Hawks have allowed 105 points per 100 possessions, tied for the sixth-best mark in the league over that span.
3. They are more experienced
Their 17-man roster includes nine players with one season or less of previous NBA experience, and five of those players have played at least 400 minutes with the NBA team this season.
With more experience in the rotation now, the Hawks have been better at finishing games.
“I think from the beginning we’ve been a pretty confident team,” Bazemore said. “I think a lack of experience and inconsistencies on a nightly basis have kind of been our Achilles heel.
