Going to a Hawks game and could use some advice

Post#1 » by Goudelock » Tue Feb 13, 2018 2:40 pm

I'm going to a game in a few weeks, and I have never driven in ATL myself nor have I been to the city in several years. I was wondering if you guys could help me out by answering a few questions:

1: Where should I park? I don't want to break the bank on parking, but I also want to be somewhat close to the stadium.

2: Are there any good restaurants around Philips Arena that are also decent but don't cost a fortune?

3: I'm coming in from the north on hwy 75. If I'm coming in from southeast TN, how long will it take to get to Philips Arena when accounting for parking?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You may get some more expert advice but here's mine:
1. I generally park near the Tabernacle/Ferris Wheel. It's a short walk although it's still $15 I think to park. You may be able to park on the street during the week for cheaper but I think it's 4 hour max times.
2. Park Bar, which is near those lots, is pretty good and often have beer specials. If you go in CNN center there are a ton of food options ranging from fast food on up. Taco Mac is pretty good and not that expensive. Skylounge at the Glen Hotel is just across the street from CNN center and has great views. They have expensive apps and drinks but you can always go up and come back down. It's pretty casual.
3. I'm not sure on this one. What does google say? there's always the chance for traffic once you get in town. Which game are you going to ?

Thanks for the answer. I'm going to the March 11 game against the Bulls. Google says it will take 2 hours, but Atlanta traffic is pretty bad, so I was assuming that google didn't take this into account.

Saturday shouldn't be too bad but honestly weekends in Atlanta can get hairy. Especially with construction. You may want to poke around to see if there any other big events that day but there probably aren't. If you left at 3 for a 7:30 game i'd think that's more than enough time to get there and eat before and provide a cushion.

On another note, my son and friends have gone a couple times where they get there really, really early to get autographs down by the court and then they just sit down right there and watch the game. Maybe it's easier to get away with when you are kids but with light turnouts you can get a free upgrade pretty easy that way.

Agree with mac-d. March 11th is a Sunday so traffic should be good unless there are multiple events downtown that day. You may want to check that.
Parking ranges from $15-$20, most take credit cards, few are cash only.
