He should look overseas for opportunities.Yahoo SportsJahlil Okafor not sure what is next, but it’s probably not with Nets
When Jahlil Okafor went to the Nets, it seemed he would get his chance to prove he still had a place in the NBA. Despite the injuries and a below-the-rim game and struggling defense, the Nets seemed a place he could get some run and show what he can do
In the Nets 18 games since the All-Star break, he has played in just three. He may well not get on the court again.
Okafor is an unrestricted free agent, so what is next for him next summer?
Okafor will have a few options, but mot many — there are teams willing to role the dice on him, although unlikely with a fully guaranteed deal for the next season. He’s going to have to again prove he can stay healthy and contribute to stick in the league.
This just seems wrong. There was a time when a guy as good as he is in the post would be an NBA player for +10 years, defensive liability or not.
I mean, it is what it is and it has been for like 3-4 years now(huh?). If you're a big who can't stretch the floor, you have to be a plus defender/rebounder. You can no longer simply be a back-to-the basket scorer. If that's what you are, you have to be willing to take a lesser role which, it appears, jOkafor isn't willing to do.
It's sad but not that sad considering a part of why he's struggled has been his own lack of a work ethic and seemingly entitled attitude. I get that, supposedly, this past offseason he committed to getting in shape but ... I mean you're 3+ years in the league and you're just now working to get in shape?
The funny thing is I recall quite vividly all these Laker fans being pissed off that they passed up on the big in that draft. How they historically always won with a big and jOkafor was the next big thing! Fast forward to now and all them Laker fans are nowhere to be found.
