It's going to be funny if he knocks out Doncic. It's going to be very much unfunny if he gets knocked out by Doncic. Trae definitely doesn't lack confidence though.

He'll be there for an assist for JC in the dunk contest, probably too

Shades of 2005 contest with Nash to Amare! I like it!

Huerter needs to participate in the three point competition. I know the sample size is relatively small but he's already known as a lethal shooter. It would be cool to see all three young Hawks involved in All Star weekend events.

It will be very interesting and I looking forward to it. Trae hopefully wins.

I’m gonna be pissed if he misses any of the passing targets. Gotta set his feet on the three and I like
his chances.

Half the time Trae is living in 3019 with his apsses and most of our slow players (looking at you Dedmon and Len) are living in 1919.

Is it wrong if I pull for the sole big man Jokic in this competition?

Yes.

And is Vucevic not a big man or did you mean that methaphorically?

I just messed up. I didn't realize Vuc was involved.

Super excited so many events will feature Hawks players. Can't wait for the day Huerter is getting repeated invites for the 3-pt contest.

Yeah, I know. Doesn't feel great to have a slight misstep get dug up and highlighted, huh? At least I didn't go back like 8 years to dig it up. 8-)

Agree on #PleaseKevinDon'tHuert'Em I can't wait for the moment he realizes just how good he is/can be.

Predicting the winner of the 2019 ASG Skills Challenge

Image

The NBA All-Star extravaganza is once again upon us and as part of that, of course, comes the 2019 Taco Bell Skills Challenge. This year’s field includes two all-star centers named Nikola (Jokic and Vucevic), two rookies (Trae Young and Luka Doncic), as well as one perennial almost all-star in Mike Conley (Jason Tatum, Kyle Kuzma, and De’Aaron Fox are also competing).

The deck seems stacked in favor of Conley, Fox, and Young, as in the 16 years of the competition, it has only been won by a non-point guard twice (Karl-Anthony Towns in 2016 and Kristaps Porzingis in 2017), but the rest of the field is generally regarded as highly skilled players.

Image

Handicapping the NBA Skills Challenge, according to the WPA Skills Challenge metric, we have Conley and Jokic as most likely, with Fox and Doncic in third and fourth. Those four are the only players in the field that have accumulated more than 10 total wins with their scoring and ball handling skills. At the other end of the spectrum, Kuzma and Tatum are both under six total wins created with scoring and ball handling, so are more likely to lose in the first round of the challenge, than to win it.
