What can we get for 2 lottery picks,2nd round picks, the expiring contracts of Bazemore, Plumlee and perhaps Prince? That should get us a sit down with the Pelicans for AD. We have enough assets where we won't have to give up any of our young talent.

I wouldn't want to trade the picks for one year of AD, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade

I'll try to say this and nothing... okay, make that "not much"... more.

I'm a new Zion convert. I was a skeptic before.

So, all of this still applies, except (1) I'm now sold on Zion for #1 if we are blessed with some poetic justice from the infamous 1975 debacle, and (2) I'm considerably less enthusiastic about Reddish's potential to evolve to become an elite talent, so it wouldn't be as difficult for me to accept a trade over selecting him.

And that's not just me talking, but me talking based on what the General Manager of the Atlanta Hawks has said publicly about the necessity to find an elite cornerstone player through the draft, and my opinion that we have found ASG talent, but not yet found elite talent (defined as finishing in the top 5 of MVP voting at least twice in his career, which only 21 players in the last 20 years can claim to have done)... and given the conventional wisdom that this will be the last time in a long time that we will have opportunity to draft this high by virtue of our season's W/L record.

Schlenk: "“There is a 75 or 76 percent chance that we’re going to have that pick at the ninth spot. [Actually, he means 75% chance we'll have DAL's pick, not specifically the 9th slot.]

"If we get lucky and jump up into the lottery, and hopefully Dallas does not, then we would be looking at two picks in the top ten, which would give us a lot of flexibility to maybe package picks and move up. We also have three picks in the second round this year -- 35, 41 and 44 -- so potentially five picks in the top 45. That gives us a lot of flexibility to make moves, so we’re excited about it.”

I won't be surprised if we trade our picks to improve now or to move up in the draft. It depends on positioning and who's on our draft board.

I see no reason to draft and hope. We must draft players that we truly believe will be impact players and top 5 a future All-Star.

If AD would commit to staying here then imagine Young, JC and AD for your Atlanta Hawks.

I can guarantee you the pelicans will ask for two of Kevin, John, and Trae for AD. They are going to value proven young talent over picks. They aren’t interested in going the tanking route. Thats why I see him going to Boston because they can offer Tatum and Brown.

I dont see us moving up in this draft either. I think the quality of prospects 4-10 are fairly equal. I say we stand pat.

The tanking route for New Orleans is going to happen regardless and they won't be able to control it.
If AD gets moved before the start of the season the team is doomed before before game one.

Agreed. Pelicans selling out just to make the 8th seed out West and lose in the 1st round would be mind-numbingly short-sighted.

They'll likely be looking for as many top young players as possible over the next 14 months.

Agreed. That's basically what the Pistons did this year. For the life of me, I cannot fathom why they played an injured B. Griffin just to squeak into the playoffs just to get boat-raced by the Bucks.

On D. Griffin, this PeliCan'ts experiment will be interesting to see. I don't consider him an excellent GM really. Now he won't have Lebron to fall back on when he makes poor moves.

I think, fwiw maybe nothing, when Schlenk talks about moving up, one shouldn't discount how aggressive he will be to go up for Zion...

And I think, fwiw maybe nothing, one shouldn't be surprised to find on draft night, he's offered (a) Prince, (b) Collins(!), (c) a #2-#6, (d) a #9-#10, and (e) whatever else it takes, maybe even Huerter.

I think NO would have interest in our picks. Like others said, they will just want good young talent to rebuild at this point. After losing both Cousins and AD, they don't have much left over. They are primed to tank -- not to compete.

AD rental is a no go for me.
They'd also want us to take back bad contracts like Hill.

I can see combining picks to move up.
Trading down and getting a future pick
How far up can Prince and #9 get us?

Return to Atlanta Hawks
