Atl will have roughly 80 mill in cap space when Baze will become a fa, so if both want each other, it won't be hard to reunite. Both guys are positive locker room vets, so you lose nothing there.

Just thinking back, LP was a first year asst in Philly when Turner was having a career year before being traded. Maybe just a coincidence but they do have that connection.

As a fan of Turner, and a Celtic fan who watched him play for a couple years every night, ATL fans will be glad to have him over Baze.

I know he's overpaid, but he is a very solid lockerroom veteran. Always pumping guys up, staying positive, no excuses kind of guy.

He knows his limitations, and tries to keep everyone involved, but also has the ability to take over for small stretches.

Can run the offense, great rebounder, good passer, extremely versatile, under rated defender, and surprisingly clutch.

I think bringing him in to play with the young guys is a good move. He did a lot to help build the culture the Celtics had the last couple of years before Kyrie, and was a model teammate. He's the type of guy you want around young players to learn from and look up to.

Not sure what Kent brought to you guys, but I would be happy with the switch if I was an ATL fan

The things you intone about Turner is the same about Baze and more in terms of the locker room, helping the young guys, Hawks fans, media and the larger Atlanta community. He was the perfect veteran for this team. He was moved to the bench in favor of Kevin Huerter in Mid-Dec last season and he was the same ole Baze, all about team and excited to see the young players grow. Baze loved Atlanta and the Hawks and did not want to leave. He just wouldn't be getting the minutes on the wing with our 2 new draftees. That's why I think they sent him to a winning spot.
The difference is on court - they have different skillsets: Baze is more the defender (steals, blocks, deflections), 3 point shooter and energy guy.
And for the record - not a fan of Turner. But as long as he is a Hawk, I'll root for him. He'll help with the ball handling duties but his shot is broken, not that he ever had one.

The fact I remember is in playoffs with IND, he was better than I thought, and I saw alot of plays where once he got the ball in the middle of a possession, nobody was moving enogh to bring him possibility to make an assist while his move was good. It ended with him being trap aound the free throw line, and it was ridiculous. The first time I saw it, I thought it was his fault, but then, I realized the other were not moving at all, leaving him in ISO while it was clearly not what he wanted to happen.
You can be the best passer in the game, if nobody is moving, you will end with TO or bad shots.

Hope coach can get the best of him, it should be OK coming from the bench, and maybe if it fits, he can stay for a lower contract, or be moved at the trade deadline for an asset.

I'm not a fan of Turner, he is the worst 3pt shooter in the league and his broken jump shot seems to be getting worst and worst every year.

Well, I'm sure he's a better shooter than many big men, but as far as guards/wings go he's one of the worst. Sometimes his mid-range game is on...but usually we cringe whenever he shoots.

YeS!!!!

Evan Turner in an isolation offense is wasted. But in a structured offense with plenty of off-ball movement -- he's surprisingly effective.

And an underrated team defender as well.

I'm still surprised by all the sudden love for Baze here. We have a lot of young wings and we had no backup primary ball handler. We fixed two things with that one trade.

Baze was great in the locker room and in the community, but Turner is as well by all accounts. TS also did Baze a solid by sending him to a team with a real chance at being a contender next year. This was a good under-the-radar trade that will benefit both teams and get both of their young guys more court time.

It's no risk for the Hawks because we aren't competing this year and if we really want Baze back for our bench when we do start competing we will have a chance to grab him next year at probably closer to the $5-$7m range. Although, I'm not a fan and would rather us look elsewhere even at that price.

I remember watching Turner when he was with the Celtics, and they played Atlanta in the playoffs. Every time they put ET in, the Hawks would end up taking the lead, because Turner couldn't hit a jump shot to save his life and he was a turn over machine. It felt like Turner's poor play was the sole reason why the Celtics lost that series. I'm surprised he is not in China right now

Yeah, sorry, Blazer fans moaned whenever he entered the game. Everyone thought Olshey was nuts when he offered Turner that much, but we didn't know he wouldn't even be a quality bench player. He has his moments, but he's mostly garbage.

Next year's Evan Turner tribute video is gonna need a lot of CGI and filler to make it last the full length of the timeout.
