OT: Is Joe Johnson too good for the Big 3?

Joe Johnson Is the Big3’s First God

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a seven-time NBA All-Star played in a three-on-three league against a bunch of washed retirees? Iso Joe has you covered.

There’s something breathtaking about watching an athlete who’s simply at a different level than all of the competition. Whether it’s Ja Morant being unleashed against the Ohio Valley Conference or the U.S. women’s national team scoring 13 goals in a World Cup match against Thailand.

And I think I’ve found the strangest level yet for such dominance to occur: Joe Johnson is obliterating the Big3, raining hellfire on the creaky retirees unfortunate enough to stand on the court with him.

Through the first month of the Big3 season, Johnson leads the league in points and assists, and ranks second in rebounding. His team, Triplets, is the only undefeated squad remaining in the league. In two of Triplets’ four wins, Johnson has scored more than half of his team’s points; in three of those wins, he’s hit the game-winning shot. The Big3 has 4-pointers, which are launched from hot spots straight out of NBA Jam. Johnson is tied for first in the league with two, and iced last week’s victory by drilling a shot from the spot.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Big3, it’s basketball’s answer to the Senior PGA Tour. The Big3 tours around the country with Ice Cube watching omnipresently from the sideline.

Big3 games end when one of the teams gets to 50 points; In his first Big3 game, [Iso-Joe] put up 27 points and 16 rebounds.

In his second game, Johnson drilled his first 4-pointer and his second game-winner:

In his third game, Johnson scored eight of the final nine points, rallying Triplets back from a big deficit and finishing with 26 points:

There’s no need for Johnson to be here. He doesn’t need the cash, and if he wants to return to the NBA, this probably isn’t the best way to get there. I genuinely believe Johnson is in the Big3 just to bust people’s asses—and my goodness, is he succeeding.

After Korver joining MIL, shoudln't they sign Joe ?
Another 3pts shooter is needed for MIL to spread the floor, and Joe can defend. Not to say he would play for Bud

BIG3 Power Rankings: Joe Johnson, Triplets finish regular season on top; Power suffer yet another injury

Heading into the playoffs, the Triplets are the clear favorite to take home the BIG3 title

After nine weeks of competition, we finally have the playoff field set for the 2019 season of the BIG3. Defending champion Power came out of the gate strong to start the season, but it soon became clear that the Triplets, led by soon-to-be BIG3 MVP Joe Johnson, were the team to beat.

1. (Last week 2) Triplets, 7-1

As if Joe Johnson hadn't locked up MVP honors already, he wowed the Dallas crowd by scoring 19 points and setting a BIG3 single-season scoring record in his first year in the league. Johnson added five rebounds and four assists, and cemented the top seed for the Triplets, who will face the 3 Headed Monsters in Sunday's playoff matchup.

I don't get how folks beat him out in the rotation in Houston.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Looks like he's leveraging his success in the "old guys minor league" into a potential NBA comeback:

I didn’t even realize they had a season this summer.

Good to see it IMO. Hope he can bring it back.
