Game Thread: Desperate Hawks visit #1 seeded Heat

Top seeded Heat host Hawks in final home game of season

Image

The Miami Heat (52-28) host the Atlanta Hawks (42-38) on Friday night at the FTX Arena at 8:00pm in their final home game of the regular season.

While the idle Heat locked up the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last night, the Hawks are currently in ninth place and are battling for playoff positioning with the play-in tournament looming. The Brooklyn Nets are in the eight seed at the moment by virtue of a tiebreaker.

Trae Young led the Hawks with a double-double to help beat the Washington Wizards 118-103 at home on Wednesday for their sixth win in their last seven games. Despite the hot run, it’s been a disappointing season for Atlanta, who never really got any momentum going after a strong showing last season in which they ended their four-year playoff drought with a deep run to the conference finals, where they lost to the eventual NBA champions Milwaukee Bucks.

Without much to play for, expect the Heat’s inactive list to grow substantially leading up to tip-off — though tonight will allow the coaching staff to get a good look at players like Victor Oladipo, Markieff Morris, Gabe Vincent and possibly Omer Yurtseven (who did not take part in yesterday’s practice due to illness and is questionable) in their bid to earn playoff minutes.

So much for Miami resting starters and coasting into the post season:

Excellent first half.
I hope Trae keeps the scoring up in the second half.

They were in position to win this game, but... they decided to do the two stupid things I said they are doing all season long in the last minutes :
- with a bit more than 2min left, Trae let the ball roll up to the half-court and once again, and it just didn't work, as usual, MIA was placed, and he ended up taking 3pts shot he missed
If there was a possibility to check how many times they did that in the season, I'm pretty they don't score more than 1 out of 10 when do that
- following play, he throw a long alley-oop to Capela that was not good enough, and what the hell trying that at this moment

He then attacked the paint and scored. Why not doing that the two previous plays ? Why they don't attack the rim and try to get some FT?
ATL got 0 FT in the 4th quarter, while MIA got 10

They were leading 103-97 with 5min left when Trae got back on the court
TO
AST
2pts
miss 3pts (the 3pts shot I was talking about after letting the ball roll)
TO (the stupid alley-oop)
2pts
miss 3pts (bad offense, he ended up launching a one foot step-back 3)

and they were trailing 109-111 after that

I'm sorry, I like this team, I like Trae, but I really don't like this kind of management of the last minutes he has done in a lot of games this season.
What's the point to be at around 30-10 in 43 minutes and you're team leading, if he makes bad decisions in the last 5 minutes and they loose?

This is where you'd want the coach to step in a CALL AN ACTUAL PLAY.

100% agree with that, I din't not mention Nate because it's just logic to me that it's the one who has to fix that

The only problem to it now is that they would have to almost prove that Nate didn't make anything for that, or it will be hard to sign a better coach after changing them so quickly.

But I'm 100% sure that a guy like Pop would have seen that they almost never score when they let this ball roll and allow the defense to be ready, and would have scream at players to not do that again, unless you have 10pts lead and 30s left in the game, but not 2pts lead and more time. And then sending this alley-oop... Parker would have been benched at that time if he did two things like that in a row.
Sadly, Trae would be a player with Pop than with Nate the way he's coaching right now
