Memphis -- SB Nation2021 NBA Draft Prospect Profiles: Corey Kispert
COREY KISPERT, WING, UNIVERSITY OF GONZAGA
- 6’7”, 220 pounds (6’7” wingspan), 22-years-old, Shoreline, WA.
- Four seasons at Gonzaga—27.4 minutes per game, 11.6 points per game, 48.3% from the field, 40.8% from three, 82.4 % from free throw line, 4.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 steals.
- STATS OF STRENGTH: Three-point shooting (44% as a senior), PER (25.3), true shooting percentage (67%)
- STATS TO IMPROVE: Assist percentage (9.0%)
- ACCOLADES AND AWARDS: Consensus first-team All-American (2021), Julius Erving Award (2021), WCC Player of the Year (2021), 2× First-team All-WCC (2020, 2021), Academic All-American of the Year (2021)
- CURRENT BIG BOARD PLACEMENTS: 13th (ESPN), 13th (Tankathon), 9th (Athletic), 13th (Ringer), 15th (CBS Sports)
Corey Kispert is the best shooter in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he far brings more than just pure shooting to the table. He’s a winner in every sense of the word; in college basketball where 20 wins is generally viewed as the barometer of success, he never won fewer than 30 games over four years at Gonzaga, and he was the Bulldogs' best player for the last two years. He’s a savvy ball-handler, a high-IQ defender, and an absurdly efficient scorer from every area on the court.
The dude is a baller. He ranked 6th in the nation as a senior in 3PT% (44%) on 6.5 attempts per game, and he was the only player in the top-8 of that category to have attempted at least 200 threes. Whether it was off-ball relocations, down screens, or just extremely deep heaves in spot-up situations, he stretched opposing defenses to their breaking point.
Kispert was much more than a mere shooter in college and could be much more so in the NBA; you aren’t the best player on one of the best college basketball teams of all time if all you can do is shoot. He regularly displayed an ability not only attack closeouts like many other effective shooters, but also to penetrate and create as a secondary facilitator while also being a constant threat to pull up off the dribble. That along with his ability to cut and finish around the basket was why he shot 61% on two-pointers this past year.
Questions remain about how well [Kispert] will be able to defend perimeter players in the NBA. He’s not a quick-twitch athlete by any stretch of the imagination, and he will have to work to improve his hips so that he can have adequate lateral quickness at the next level. Kispert has good size at 6’7”, 220 pounds and will be a high-IQ defender within a team’s defensive scheme. Those qualities alone will make him at least passable on defense even if he physically struggles a bit on that end to start his career.Kispert has good size at 6’7”, 220 pounds and will be a high-IQ defender within a team’s defensive scheme. was absolute garbage in the entire NCAA tournament from opening game all the way through the title game. Couldn't get open or get his shot off vs quicker opponents.

Sandro Mamukelashvili 7'0 Seton Hall
Very interesting player and could be the perfect prospect for the Hawks considering their situation.
Mamu has unique skill sets for his size and he is a high risk, high reward player. He is this year's version of Jokic, Dramond, Giannis. which is a big guy with guard skills.
Since the Hawks have a good young core and plan to bring it back and have a low first round draft pick, they could take the risk and take Mamu and see if he can turn into overachieving skilled big like Jokic. Hawks can bring him along slowly or even send him overseas like what the Lakers did with Marc Gasol.
The new NBA seems to really favor bigs with ball handling and guard skills, Mamu could be that guy taken in the 2nd round or low first round and 5 years from now people will be saying "how did Mamu fall so low, or why was this guy or that guy selected over him"

Well, what is his exact height, because when I goggle him to research more he's listed at 6'10, 6'11, or 7'0.atlantabbq99 wrote:

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Scouting
From this list, I am most interested in Ayo, Robinson-Earl, Ajayo, Garza (in the 2nd round) and Kessler Edwards.

I like Springer or Mann at #20. If they go backup PG, I hope for someone big enough to play some mins with Trae.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Scouting
I only want one of these guys if we are gonna draft a 3rd strong pg in the draft.
Davion Mitchell- Realize probably not him he’s going top 10 or higher.
Jared Butler- I like his mechanics and quick decision making. Prolly the best shooter of the pg’s to me.
Tre Mann- IT and the floater game. Smooth cat and pretty big for a point.
Latter two seem in the realm (Realgm hehe) of possibility.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Scouting
Mamukelashvili, and Charles Bassey both very interesting to me.
Another guy that keep popping up that could be available in the late 1st round and could be a steal is Jaden Springer.
Springer could be this year's version of Jimmy Butler or Tony Allen
Just like Butler and Allen, Springer was a boring defensive guy in college with not much offensive production.
Springer is a guy who i'm most interested in his interview and background check. I really want to know what Springer's personality is and what he is like mentally. If Springer ends up having that Kobe, Jimmy Butler psychotic work ethic who is just a flat out dawg, then Springer could be a late 1st round steal just like Tony Allen and Jimmy Butler were.

It's something about Primo that separates him from the pack at 20 for me. I hope Butler checks out, I'd still pick him in the early 2nd round regardless.

The AthleticZach Harper's 2021 NBA Draft Mock
20. Atlanta Hawks – Jaden Springer, G, Tennessee, 18 years old
I’ve been kicking around the idea of the Atlanta Hawks taking either a wing or a backup point guard at 20. I think they’ll look to free agency for a backup point guard to help Trae Young not have to do so much creation. So let’s see them grab an off-guard with a potential to be a lead guard off the bench in the future.
Jaden Springer makes a ton of sense. The Hawks have a lot of wings, but they showed in the playoffs that they could use a few more. I think Springer will really be able to shoot the ball at the NBA level, and he has good evidence to suggest that to be the case. I doubt he’ll be much more of an offensive player than a catch-and-shoot guy, but he’ll make up for that with his defense. If he can turn into a reliable pick-and-roll initiator, he becomes a steal. He can play for Nate McMillan right away, but he’s also extremely young so he could take some time to get comfortable.

I agree, I would sign Derrick Rose as Trae's back up.
I would then draft Mamukelashvili, or Charles Bassey but if i find out that Springer has that psycho Kobe/Jimmy Butler work ethic, then I would go ahead and draft Springer.
