I pasted those projections in previous page, 5 days ago. And they look realistic enough. The only problem is the interpretation. In last year draft, the difference between 7th and 11th place was, at least on paper, big, but this year draft looks only top heavy. I don’t believe there is a lot of difference between 7th or 11th pick in quality of players, but the difference in the odds is very big. If Mavs finish 7th, Atlanta have 68% to get the pick, if Mavs finish 11th, Atlanta have 91% to get Mavs pick.

I like where the Mavs pick is right now. I'd be nervous if it was any higher. A top 3 and top 10 pick would be a pretty good haul in this draft. That gets us two more potential starters. Either two wings or a wing and a center would be ideal.

Thinking the same. Just keep the pick in the 8-12 slot, let’s not get greedy and root for 6 and 7 spots. The wonderboy is trying to learn how to tank from Cuban. Smh. Lol. This is where the teen gets “dirtied up”.

I'm not losing sleep over where Dallas finishes. They will have a solid odds to move up but ones that are favorable to us no matter where they finish:

6th - 62.8% chance the Hawks keep the pick
9th - 79.8% chance the Hawks keep the pick
12th - 92.8% chance the Hawks keep the pick

I think 6-12 is your likely spread and anywhere in that continuum the Mavs will have realistic odds to jump into the top 4 and everywhere in that spread the Hawks will be significantly more likely to get the pick than not.

Besides Doncic, that Mavs team is very mediocre.

Say Whaaaat?
It should just go to us this year. That would be punishment enough for the Cavs.

So we may have to push back the 1st round pick to 2021? Then 2 2nds in 2022 and 2023?

I'm a break out the Tragic/Magic numbers in a few days, uniform-style like we did on the Squawk.
But somebody check my underlying math for me. (Assume it's way too early to mess with tiebreaker scenarios)

HAWKS LOTTERY "TRAGIC" # [i.e., Hawks "fail" to reach the 8-team Eastern Conference Playoffs]
= (82 + 1) - (Hawks Ls) - (East 8th-most Ws)

CAVSPICK BOTTOM-10 TRAGIC # [i.e., Cavs fail to finish 11-through-30 in the NBA standings]
= (82 + 1) - (Cavs Ls) - (NBA 20th-most Ws)

MAVSPICK NOT-BOTTOM-5 MAGIC # [i.e., Mavs "succeed" in finishing 1-through-25 in the NBA standings]
= (82 + 1) - (Mavs Ws) - (NBA 5th-most Ls)

if those are about right, then I've currently got HAWKS "TRAGIC" at 36, CAVSPICK TRAGIC at 31, MAVSPICK MAGIC at 37.

I dig. Let the countdown begin! The Mavs pick NOT BOTTOM 5 had me confused when you said 1-25 but obviously the key term was NOT that reversed it from being 1-5. Got it, good stuff. Dang I miss the squawk clinching countdowns.

Currently tied for 9/10th with Grizz. 3.8% shot at the 1st overall and 17.3% for a top 3 pick if the season ended today for the Mavs (us).

It's looking like JJ Barea tore his achilles last night. That could be a big blow to the Mavs.

Should be a big blow. He was stability at pg in that 6th man role with 20 mpg. That, combined with how tough their remaining schedule is and how close the west is, they could easily fall to 8 or so.

I hate that for barea. His play was remarkable for a 34 yo. I reckoned he could have been a tremendous vet signing for Trae.
