I am pretty much in the same camp about Bogi. He has been MIA the last several games. He is getting paid to be able to step up when needed and he has not be able to do that.

Don't think the Raptors FO does this but would the Hawks do it?

Image

If the Hawks are looking to win now this move definitely makes them one of the best in the East:

Young/Wright
Bogdanovic/Lou Will
OG/Huerter
Collins/Gallo
Capela/Dieng

Well balanced lineup.

Hawks wouldn't, that's an overpay.

While Hield would be useful to this team, I can't imagine Hawks fans would be satisfied if he was thew primary addition to this team.

Levert would be appealing. But I think either player would be part of a larger trade, likely re-routing them to Philly for Simmons.

Eric Pincus wrote:If a team doesn't project to have cap space next summer, can it get there by trade?

An alternative approach includes a relatively short list of players who may have especially desirable contracts this season either with team options or partially/non-guaranteed salary for 2022-23. It's a trick that only works by the deadline, as the NBA has rules in place to prevent teams from similarly benefiting in the summer.

Forward Danillo Gallinari is a perfect example, with $20.5 million fully guaranteed with the Atlanta Hawks this season, but only $5 million of his $21.5 million promised for 2022-23. The Hawks can take on a player earning as much as $25.6 million for Gallinari (more if they include other outgoing players like Cam Reddish). The incoming team can waive Gallinari's final year at just $5 million (with the option to stretch it for $1.7 million over three seasons).

Just by way of an example, the Sacramento Kings could send Buddy Hield to the Hawks for Gallinari. If the Kings then stretched Gallinari's $5 million, the team could near $28 million in cap space next season.

Or suppose the Indiana Pacers agreed to send Caris LeVert and Jeremy Lamb to Atlanta for Gallinari and Reddish. Indiana could get to about $13 million in cap room next season (while adding Reddish via trade).

Permitted to? Sure. Likely to? No way.

The Hawks won't be going into the luxury tax by trading Gallo for a 2+ year contract.

Pass
Adding Heild creates a wing glut and reduces our front court depth/size.
Levert/Lamb adds another series of INJURED wings.

1 Player Each NBA Team Needs to Trade in 2022

Atlanta Hawks: Danilo Gallinari

Image

Others will urge the Atlanta Hawks to shop De'Andre Hunter or Cam Reddish. Both are extension-eligible this summer, and they already signed Kevin Huerter to a four-year, $65 million deal that kicks in next season. Yes, Atlanta will have to surrender one if it strikes a consolidation trade. However, it'll take a larger salary to anchor any blockbuster, which is where Danilo Gallinari comes in.

Contracts promising cap relief don't always belong to players capable of making a positive impact. Gallinari still can. His offense translates both on and off the ball, he can still put his head down and draw contact, and this is the fourth consecutive season in which he's drained more than 40 percent of his threes.

Make no mistake—the Hawks can use him, but he has a $5 million partial guarantee against a $21.5 million price point next year, and they've tied up $40 million-plus per season in the John Collins-Clint Capela front line.

Atlanta might plan to waive Gallinari after this year anyway. Even if it doesn't, attaching his salary to picks and youngsters is its most likely path to a glittery acquisition that doesn't entail making Collins available.

No interest in Gallo for Al Horford, right? Cap and talent issues, hunt for bigger game vs front court rotation vet for the playoffs

This puts the Hawks over the Luxury Tax this year which I think they want to avoid unless it's 'star upgrade'
Al's $14 mil guarantee next season vs Gallo's $5 million is also problematic for next season.

Horford s guaranteed 9.5 million more than Gallo next year, which makes the deal a no-go. That, along with how disliked Horford is in this city, is a deal breaker.

How many first round picks is OKC going to include? Seriously, I don't see it happening, or Atlanta being interested.

. Hell no, Masai loves OG and he is one of the best wing defenders in the NBA who can give you 20 & 10 on almost any night. You could maybe look to trade for Siakam but overlaps with Scottie Barnes

Trade Ideas for NBA's Biggest Buyers and Sellers

Jerami Grant to Atlanta

Image

Atlanta Hawks Receive: Jerami Grant

Detroit Pistons Receive
: Danilo Gallinari, Cam Reddish, 2022 first-round pick (top-20 protection in 2022; top-18 protection in 2023; top-16 protection in 2024; turns into two seconds thereafter)

The Hawks are expected to peddle the combination of Gallinari and Reddish in search of a defensive upgrade, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick. Grant is among the most obvious players for them to target.

Detroit shouldn't fret about dealing him. He is extension-eligible this summer, and the team is not close enough to playoff contention to bankroll his next contract, either this offseason or when he hits 2023 free agency.

Turning him into Gallinari, Reddish and a first-rounder better suits the Pistons' direction. It is also in line with what the Orlando Magic got for Aaron Gordon—who, like Grant, had another season left on his deal: salary filler, a perimeter prospect still on his rookie-scale deal and a future pick.

Gallinari may even emerge as more than matching money. He is guaranteed just $5 million of his $21.5 million salary next season. The Pistons can view him as immediate cap relief or reroute him to a team offloading longer-term contracts.

Whether the Hawks should go the consolidation-trade route is debatable. Caveats and all, they are among this season's most disappointing teams. But Grant should shore up a leaky defense at both the 3 and 4, and their immediate ceiling explodes once De'Andre Hunter returns and if Bogdan Bogdanovic recaptures form after rejoining the rotation.

Atlanta and Detroit will have to haggle over pick protections. Make no mistake, though: Reddish and Gallinari alone shouldn't get it done.
Grant will have other suitors, even before he returns from his thumb injury, and the Pistons gain a boatload of leverage if the Sacramento Kings don't put Harrison Barnes on the trade block.

That is a lot to pay for a kid who has never taken over a playoff game offensively and who has tons of overlap with De'Andre Hunter.

We'd be more likely to pursue Jerami Grant who'd be much less expensive to acquire and retain.

NOTE: The way Raptors fans feel about Scottie Barnes is the same way Hawks fans feel about Onyeka Okongwu.

Well he was a reserve for one of the most losing teams out there. It's not like getting him to start here would be the missing piece. He ideally should still come off the bench.

And/or Haliburton ? The guy is the first SAC player with a series of 20pts/10ast in recent games, and they ready to trade him... We don't know what they would like though.

I was dreaming of the opportunity to get both Okongwu and Haliburton in their draft, it would be great to get him, but for who

On a side note, and after some many games they can't play with both Capela and Okongwu, I would have sign Cousins now, especially after the way he played with MIL. Sometimes, our biggest problem is not this bad defense but offense in 4th... another offensive weapon can't be a bad thing
