So nbadraft.net has us taking Jaren Jackson Jr. with the #2 overall selection.

Their latest mock is... Questionable. Highly debatable. But I suppose someone has to shake up the consensus on the draft.

Yeah, I saw that too. Not sure how I feel about it. JJJ seems like a 3 & D extraordinaire with an admittedly high ceiling. He probably profiles better alongside John Collins long term than any other big man in this draft.

Peachtree Hoops goes in on him and others in today's Locked on Hawks Podcast.

Read on Twitter

Michael Porter Jr. – Atlanta Hawks

Like his old AAU teammate Trae Young, and every other prospect, the Cleveland Cavaliers would be a dream come true for Michael Porter Jr. Depending on his health, he could end up right where they’re drafting. However, another great fit would be the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta doesn’t have a lot going for it with few exciting prospects. Porter Jr. could come in as the new de facto franchise player, which would suit him.

From high school and AAU, Porter is used to the spotlight and is a legitimate franchise player. He fits in well with Dennis Schroder and Taurean Prince. Even more importantly, he’d get to play for one of the brilliant offensive minds in the NBA. Mike Budenholzer is the kind of coach that can help Porter reach his offensive ceiling. Sometimes it’s great to join a stacked team, but other times it’s better to be there on the ground floor and build something new.

Heh.

What, you don't like a dad-bod on your 19yo super-prospect that supposed to revolutionize the league?

I guess this is what SpongeBob meant when he said NBA-level strength/conditioning will do the kid wonders. Still though, do a sit-up or something, broseph.

Speaking of SpongeBob, seeing those pics, now I see why we haven't seen him in a while. Can't type one-handed.

French Frank (Ntilinkia?) had a similar frame heading into the start of this season.

Seems like a common issue for Euro prospects. (Is this what ball players looked like in the 70s and 80s?)

Probably. Plus guys had a lot more taco meat. :)

On FrenchFrank, I don't think people questioned his athleticism the way folks question Doncic's. So the dad-bod wasn't an issue? I don't know.

Frank is not getting pass people either this year in the NBA. There were concerns about his explosiveness before the draft too.

I usually like my prospects to have a good body...I don’t want a Sexton fullback...I almost don’t mind this dad body he has going because it means he didn’t lift weights yet...that’s not a bad idea...lifting can mess a shot up...but ya a catch 22 if he doesn’t lift he’s gonna probably get killed in the nba.

Having said that I still have Doncic at #1/2

Folks I’m watching JJJ over on BSPN and I’m scared. They talk about potential, length and the ability to play both ends. I don’t see anything in him....first off he reminds me of Marvin so that’s a bad start already  But beyond that he doesn’t pass the eye test to warrant a top 5 pick...let alone a top 2? And the announcer said possibly the #1 pick????? :o

Am I missing something here?

Ps The only thing I like about him..well one of the few things doesn’t even involve him, his dad played hard. :P

He's more of a safe play. He defends and can shoot threes, so he's basically an analytics darling. People are almost certain that he can be ranging from Myles Turner to Miami Heat Chris Bosh to Celtics Al Horford, which is valuable in today's game. However, I don't know if you would give up some other prospects with higher ceilings also lower floors for someone who's sure to be a fringe all-star (or all-star on a good team). And his rebounding rate is 14.9%. Compared to Ayton at 20.5% and Bamba at 20.4%, Jackson is not a good rebounder, which is a bad thing -- remember those Miami Heat teams got killed on the boards with Bosh at center?

Though he can be a good fit next to John Collins, he's not as good as Ayton. If Bamba can knock down open threes at 35%-40%, I would take Bamba over him too.

I’d take Bamba, Young, Doncic, Ayton, Bagley, Mikal Bridges and Porter over him.

Rick Camla compared JJJ to Kevin Garnett and Doncic to Seattle Brent Barry.

Wow...really? Does he have the heart of kg? (No not our kg..)

Doncic to Brent Barry? Maybe the court awareness.

They were also saying he’s the perfect center for the new NBA game...I thought he would be a pf.

I don't know how anybody who watches basketball could criticize Ayton's hustle, he has an elite motor that you rarely see in a 7 footer and he always looks like he is out working his teammates. His physique reminds me of a 7 foot Rodman.
