What about Brendan Haywood, Dominique Jones (late 1st), right to Nick Calathes (early 2nd) as well as 2012 Minny's 2nd for Kirk Hinrich? You guys are not under the cap anyway. Haywood is a top-tier rebounder with very good rebounding rate. He's a very good man defender in the post. He's limited offensively and his FT doesn't look right, though. The trade would probably keep D12 away from the East. Would you do it?

Ok so NO is apparently ready to cash in on their big man Chris Kaman due to Emeka Okafor's occupancy. Is there a reason why we aren't at least toying with this? Kaman has been a quality starter in the past and Indiana is willing to trade for him to be a BACKUP role.
I mean I can understand if the price tag is too high for someone that isn't even worth Smooth. I can even understand us going after KMart so we can have another rebounder and tough guy. But that still doesn't solve our big man problems! A 7-footer with solid defense and post game is on the market RIGHT NOW! If Indiana is really gonna use Kaman as their backup center, why can't we do that once Horford comes back. Or even better, Kaman starts and Horford moves to the 4 spot. Either of those options are possible.
Just a mockup trade so bear with me: Atlanta trades Kirk + Marvin + 1st for Kaman + Vasquez. We dont go into luxury tax. We immediately get younger in the backcourt, but I think both Vasquez and Teague compliment each other well, AND Kaman will be our 7-footer in the post. When Horford got back, the Hawks could arguably have the best defensive frontcourt with Smoove, Horford, and Kaman if we wanted to play big. Hey we might even be able to sway him to stay for cheap if we are successful.

the price tag is too high. They want young bigs and they should have small contracts if they dont pan out.
Houston offered Terrence Williams' expiring, Hasheem Thabeet's expiring and Jordan Hill's expiring for Kaman's expiring.
All we have is Kirk Hinrich who isn't a big man and Al Horford who cant be traded until March 1st.
Houston wants to pursue Dwight as well so... meh

It's a b.s. suggestion in a column that we should ship Teague and Josh Smith for Pau Gasol to make us a real contender.

No incentive for Atlanta to do this trade.

I doubt Atlanta does it. If Kirk is replaced with Teague, probably, but Teague fills a void that the team has had for many years.
The other reason is Pau Gasols contract:
$18,714,150
$19,000,000
$19,285,850

Why even discuss it? A lil google search shows Its not a trade rumor its an ESPN trade idea.

We are now 20 games into the NBA season, and the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder have confirmed their status as the league's elite title contenders. None of these teams has proved itself dominant, though, and like last season, the door is open for an unexpected champion.
There are almost a dozen teams that are looking to not just reach the playoffs, but make some noise once they get there. Many of these teams are still a piece away from challenging the top tier of teams.
Here is a look at players who could get some squads off the B-list and earn them full-fledged contender status, and the trades it would take to bring them in.
Note: Included are the current TeamRankings' championship odds for each team.
Atlanta Hawks Current TR championship odds: 3 percent
Atlanta has some notable victories so far this season and is putting together a stronger campaign than it had last season. We're not deep in the schedule yet, however, and even without Al Horford's injury, we'd expect some regression to the team's previous mean.
Needs: The Hawks have been built around a core of inefficient "almost stars". One high-volume shooter is great when the offense breaks down, but too many get you stuck in an isolation-heavy offense. Atlanta needs an efficient star to pair with Joe Johnson.
Assets: Josh Smith, Jeff Teague and the improved Marvin Williams are good players but not great. They're expendable if the team wants to get significantly better.
The trade: Smith, Teague and 2012 first-round pick to the Lakers for Pau Gasol.
Gasol and Horford (when healthy) would give the Hawks the best frontcourt in the league. If Kirk Hinrich can hold down the fort at point guard, Atlanta's core could do better than upper-mediocrity.
A possible alternative here is Amare Stoudemire, in part because Smith and Carmelo Anthony deserve each other.
Note: For this trade to work, Atlanta would need to throw in a little more salary from its bench, which will free up March 1.
My favorite part of the BSPN jokesider article:
"Gasol and Horford (when healthy) would give the Hawks the best frontcourt in the league. If Kirk Hinrich can hold down the fort at point guard, Atlanta's core could do better than upper-mediocrity."
- Kirk is expiring and Horford won't be healthy till next year. Guy's an idiot.
"A possible alternative here is Amare Stoudemire, in part because Smith and Carmelo Anthony deserve each other."

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread
I just wasted 2 minutes of my life that I will never give back reading that article; Atlanta is a team that has 0 respect around the league, so ESPN is just throwing out Bogus ideas to gut the team of its core and give those core players to large market teams. ESPN is trash, I wouldn't even do Josh for Gasol straight up let alone give them Teague and our 1st. Then Josh for Amare is another Bogus trade scenario, Amare has weak knees and is uninsured making the max, and what's his reason for this ripoff trade? Cause Melo and Josh deserve each other???? What an idiot.

I'm not entirely sold on Pekovic, he had a great game last night but I want to see him do it again so that he can prove he's consistent, I'd love the other 2 though, but who knows how much Stern would want us to overpay for Okafor, that leaves Jordan Hill who is a legit option; maybe something around Hinrich and a second round pick for Jordan Hill.

Granger for Josh Smith has always been a trade that intrigues me.

I could get behind that but I'd be thrilled at Josh Smith for Roy Hibbert, we'd finally get the true center we've been looking for, I doubt Indi does it tho; maybe if we throw in a second round pick or 2.

Not going to happen because we take on too much salary. That would put us over luxury for next season. Not a bad trade outside of money wise but that means it want happen.

Maybe if PHX throws in their 2012 first rounder, Smoove has been horrid the past couple games but he still has a lot of value around the league.
